    X1 graphics capabilities, odd soc architecture, etc. confirmed by MS

    http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/16...d-by-microsoft I'll let our resident tech heads break this all down. If already posted then mods can delete it.

    Interesting,....what the function of this 2nd gpu will do. For some reason MS has some type of agreement with AMD as to when they can talk about its functions.

    uuummmmm...Fried Beer iis a reality.

    Lol sure seems like there is a 2nd discrete gpu in there. That site makes a compelling argument. If true, that is a literal game changer

    OO Not this is interesting! So they may indeed have a second gpu, and a mysterious co processor on the other side we still don't know anything about other than it's existence. I am excited. I may have to revert to my techi ways with news like this.

    It would be nice to have a secondary GPU dedicated to physics processing, etc.

    WOW! A send GPU? That should change things tremendously.

    This could explain why MS has been pretty secretive about certain aspects of the hardware. They could, possibly have an ace up their sleeve and if so, any sort of GPU advantage could be nullified.

    Intriguing for sure

    To be fair though, Sony hasn't been super open on what tech is all inside the PS4 either! We have no clue what the speed of the CPU is, we don't know all other additional processors are include (for video decoding/encoding, etc.)...I can't wait for an iFixit teardown of both systems to see what is all on those motherboards! Here is what I am still wondering:

    1) What is the GHz speed of the CPU?
    2) What is the speed of the GPU, what card is it truly based off of?
    3) Can the BD-ROM drive handle quad layer discs?
    4) What RPM is the built in hard drive, is it a hybrid SSHD drive?
    5) What other processors are used in the system for video decoding, audio processing, etc.?
    6) What kind of cooling solution are they using?

    Figured I would copy paste article before MS tells them to take that info down for some reason.

    Is it where Microsoft hides second GPU inside Xbox One? misterxmediaAugust 28th, 19:22 Mistercteam: Analyisis about XBOX 1 actually bigger than 363 mm^2, also why MS said
    363mm^2 is only for MainSOC

    some backup data
    - X1 MS claim X1 Main SOC = 363mm^2 = ~ 5 Billion
    - 7970 is 365 mm^2
    - Both 7970 and X1 use chip pacakaging that industri standard, that why you can perfectly match the rectangle area (Chip pacakaging dimension is the same but die area is not)

    original source of image
    -http://www.overclockers.ua/video/amd...0-asus-dc2.jpg
    -http://content.hwigroup.net/images/p.../133573-34.jpg
    -http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/pc...612/762/01.jpg

    First ReProcessed image source to make it same orientation and mark the rectagle area for overlay purposes:
    *) to make it more openly i provide the source

    7970
    http://i.imgur.com/n8fx5cd.jpg

    XB1
    http://i.imgur.com/wpjZHEX.jpg

    7970 rotate 45 degress
    http://i.imgur.com/88Ho4ei.jpg

    7970+X1 overlay each other plus reposition the X1 mark to 7970 die
    http://i.imgur.com/KRQTuQK.jpg

    Now Using Ruler tool
    the 7970 --> 363-365 mm^2
    the XB1 is suprisingly 522-525 mm^2
    Basically there are 175 mm^2 space for something

    All below assumption and further analysis is based on
    remaining Transistor is for dGPU, also the dGPU SRAM already moved to MainSOC -> 47MB remember (more than 32MB, as 11-12 MB are for dGPU probably)
    so with assumption all remaining Transistor budget for dGPU or Custom DX 11.2 or VI tech
    then let we see. (remember 30-40% of 7970 for example is for SRAM budget, so 1792-2048 ALU without L2 SRAM takes less transistor budget than 4 billion of 7970)

    so Analysis of 175mm^2

    1st assumption 175 mm^2 is 28nm too (TSMC cowos can intermixed node process)
    -> 175mm^2 without SRAM means : 2-3 Billion transitor enough for 1792-2048 ALU

    2nd assumption 175 mm^2 is 20nm (die made from Glofo 20nm)
    -> 175 mm^2 --> ~ 4Billion enough for 2304-2560 ALU

    with SRAM & small CPU
    --> 28nm => 1152-1280 ALU
    --> 20nm -> 1792-2048 ALU

    Imagine with 3D stack W2W

    the good thing
    it is 100% sure that 5 Billion is only for Main SOC, and MS still not tell the other transistor budget

    My Own specualtion:
    In my believe that probably it is only 2.5D COWOS and not full 3D but with above explanation who complaint, even with lower estimation the dGPU still pack > 3TF
    but if W2W well damn.

    Also explain why China rumor said 384bit --> radeon 8880 --> 1792/2048 ALU future GPU
    also why pastebin listed as 20-26CU, 2.5-3TF

    Interesting

    Thats the guy who was debunked during all the spec rumors. He even got banned on a couple of sites like this http://pc1.stonearch.net/forums/member.php?u=5781 for spreading bs. Definitley not a reliable source.

    the best information on that link is in the comments, from other folks discussing the possibility.

    I know he isn't a "SOURCE" because this isn't fact. This is a man's opinion and analysis on the chipset.

    If it were a true source, I would have flat out tried to make it sound like one LOL

    I know this is all part of the console war dance, but the comments on that article make for compelling info... combined with the leaked rumors in May that the XB1 had an extra gpu in it (and 360 chipsets), there is at least a little fuel to the fire for some that this could be possible.

    Likely? no... possible yes.

    Oh yeah of course. Anything is possible. I'm just saying the guy himself should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Hes about as good a source as VG Chartz. lol And thats why hes been banned from certain forums.

    To which said fire will thoroughly melt the X1 :P

    Edit: On a more topic related note reading this one statement could also be a legit possibility...

    "To generate better yields for the Xbox One generation, Microsoft reportedly designed redundancies into the chip so that if one portion becomes inoperable, the whole chip isn't totally worthless."

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/xbo...uma,24035.html

    Sony did a similar thing with CELL, the original spec had 8 SPEs, but because of yield issues they chose to have 7 as the base spec allowing CPUs with a single defective SPE still be use able rather than chuck it.
