Xbox One: may allow you to resell, trade digital games? (from poll on MS' site)

    http://www.geek.com/games/microsoft-...games-1568980/

When the Xbox One was still an always-connected console, Microsoft had a used game retail system ready to roll out. It meant selling and sharing games with others would be a managed experience rather than what we currently have with current gen consoles. With Microsoft U-turning on the feature, we will continue to have the same experience for used games on physical discs. But what about games you download? Currently you can’t resell them once purchased. With download content becoming a much bigger part of the console experience, that’s going to be a bigger issue for gamers, especially if download prices match those of physical discs.
Microsoft is at least thinking about trying something a bit different with the Xbox One, though, by toying with the idea of allowing you to resell download games as part of an online marketplace.
Not seen this anywhere else on here (not sure why as if implemented would be a cool thing). Potentially great feature if they did it without an always online check for digi games. But yeah, if they go with this, hope it's something Sony does with the PS4.

Cool feature that I would use, but not necessarily need. Though I wonder how (the details) of the implementation of this.

    Also please note:
This is just a survey question and by no means something that is going to happen. However, it is clearly something Microsoft is thinking about, and to be honest, needs to think about for the future. If physical discs are going to disappear eventually, gamers will demand the ability to sell their download games when they are through playing them.

Yeah, I agree. Though maybe not digital only. I'll probably o mainly digital if this occurs.

If it doesn't happen (for PS4) I wouldn't be gutted. But it's one great step for convenience, in the future, if it does happen for XBO/PS4.

How can you resell a digital game? This makes no sense what so ever. if it's digital, they have infinite copies to sell. Not only that, there is nothing warn on the digital copy to create a half price cut for that specific digital copy. This is weird, it's like one of those things that you try to think about but your head explodes.

There has been talk of a Marketplace @ PSN service for months. Lets just see, SONY has lots of stuff not revealed yet.

If you look at this way, let's say I buy Mass Effect 2 digitally for $60, and I am done with it. And let's say someone wants to play it that you know, but can't afford the game at $60 from a new digital download. If we can transfer the license and get a reduced price for that other person, then it will be a win for the gamer and the publisher. The publisher/devs can get money from used games, gamers can get "used" digital games for less, and people are actually buying games. That person may have never bought ME2, but at that reduced rate, they did, and money is exchanging hands for all.

Except for the always on part, I liked MS' plan for digital trading and reselling. I think it can be done with a one time verification. If you have a digital copy you obviously have your console connected, so that part won't be an issue. The issue is the inability to disconnect for whatever reason.

I (hopefully) don't think they'll do that. Like you said, since it's digital. And I doubt they'll make it possible for the game files to be copied (apart from save data maybe?) externally, so once activated it should be a non-issue.

If the internet is off, I assume once it's been activated (purchased; then maybe some form of E-CD key will be sent to the MS servers to be tied to that console until sold & traded) - I think it's very possible to have this, CD-key or some sort of key, only "check-in during transactions (first purchases, during trades/resell etc).

Maybe an evolved version of an MD5 hash check?

Excellent, this is going to be the way forward. EU recognizes a digital license as being a product you can resell.

Sounds awesome. Could be a giant step towards a digital future.
I'll wait for all the dirty little details before I get happy though.

Amazing news for gamers if it is true, sure it will force sony to follow it.

Come on now, we all know it will be a cold day in hell (and I'll both owe and be owed a $#@! load of money) before this happens. But hey, one can dream and MS can keep cranking on that PR machine.

Something like this would seem to require a online checking system, to update who owns the license for the game after it gets sold.

And we've seen how gamers act to required online and anything that sounds like DRM.

If they do this it's gone take a lot of planning and some good PR to avoid backlash.

Digital games have always had an online requirement and DRM.

Not a frequent check though, for this to work it may require one.

For it to confirm the transferred license, it's pretty obvious it needs to be online.
