Nice, so when my pulse headset dies, I can easily plug it up using the Jack.

The batteries on those things do not last At all

Great to hear. I wonder if I'll be able to plug in the cable for my microphone though.

The way I understand it, all modern headsets should work, like your iPhone or Samsung hands free, as well as all earphones and normal headphones etc.

With a one dollar 2.5mm>3.5mm adapter the 360 headset should also work.

I thought this was old news and everyone knew this already...

Well it is an awesome wee add-on to this nice controller

Good to know but I definitely couldn't care about a mono headset for listening purposes.

I also have the pulse elites and I just use a long usb cable so it doesn't drain the battery. If you have a receiver or headphone-out jack on your tv, you could just use them that way without drawing power

Maybe he's talking about the free headset you get with your PS4. At least, I hope so.

So, you'd be able to either Mono Chat or Stereo Audio via the 3.5mm jack, I guess the stereo audio might be acceptable for some solo game play at night, but I'm still waiting on news for the EXT jack.

I somewhat expecting to hear 7.1 Audio + Chat via the EXT jack that's t the left of the 3.5mm jack. I'd pay $99 for a 7.1 game audio + Chat that plugged into the controller.

I don't get the point of 7.1 headphones.

Yes that's exactly what I meant, but like most of you are suggesting you could just use a nice pair of headphones. I myself am not really into gaming with headphones on, I rather blast the home theater sound loud lol.

Me neither. Specially with most of them being just virtual surround supporting 7.1 or 5.1.

Ah I see. I prefer the virtual sound of my home theatre as well. My last headphones ended up modded in a helmet. lol

Still stereo from the controller is a very nice addition. And the freedom of using any headset you want.

I'd be fine w/ 5.1 support. You'll still be able to get good directionality.

95% of the time I'd be using my HT setup, it's that 5% of the time when my family is asleep and I want to blast some $#@! away that I want the headset for. Otherwise I'd much prefer my HT setup.

Stereo heaset will let me play, but it won't give me good directionality. I want to know when somethings coming up over my left shoulder. Especially if it's a Zombie crawling out of the gutter I just past a minute before and it's going to try to eat my for breakfast.

If they can just give you stereo out from the DS4 that would be great!
I'm sure it won't be mono. Just because the headset is doesn't mean they can achieve stereo as well.
I'm sure it's setup to take any headset with a mic whether its an earpiece type with one earpiece or a stereo headset with two, I'm sure it will work. I'm so glad Sony allowed us to choose what type of headset we can use.

When I listen to a normal headset now it just sounds so flat.

I agree, even though it may not technically be true surround sound because its all in the same general area, it still is better than stereo. It just sounds crisper.
IMO it's like audio production, if you have a bass line and you have it on one track it sounds good and you won't complain.
But if you take that track copy it twice having 3 identical tracks and take the one on the left and equalize all the highs out boosting the low end, then take the far right track and remove the lows cleaning up those highs, while tweaking the middle track to bring out the mids you will end up having the same baseline but it will sound so much clearer and cleaner by separating certain frequencies even though the sound is coming from the same place the sound is now improved greatly and is more pleasant to hear.
This is just my experience with audio.

Even so You can get really good sound positioning with regular 2 channel stereo headphones its not like you cant tell where the sound if coming from at all.

Little experiment I recorded the same footage using Audactity (great free app) in a video game using stereo and 5.1 virtual

Can you tell which is which?

With my broken hearing I'll pick the second as the virtual surround.

That reminded me of the virtual barber audio clip. heh
