Well this is good news, but in all that has happened.

    Can this have

been done before, and cut out the middle man and fix all this after the first hack... I understand it is a freaking pain to get all hackers from hacking the site/forum and in the future it will happen again and yes the upgrade all them months back helped

But hackers adapt and so does the staff need to adapt to counter this, to reduce the impact on the money invested in running the forum and staff and the members as a whole

But future hackers will find a way round this and that is a strong FEAR to have

When, were, how and at what cost to the site/forum

All we can do is attempt to adapt in return. In my experience, the only truly protected server is the one that is unplugged. Security is a never-ending battle.

That is so true friend... Just nice to be aware off what is out there and what can actually harm the site

I suspect many of you don't understand just how costly and timely it is to keep a forum running. Servers aren't cheap and neither is security. Blaming PSU for the successful hack is pointless. It could've happened to any vBulletin forum. It was just unfortunate that the hackers chose us. That said, with my understanding, work is being done to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul.

It can be costly, sure. That's a general term though, "costly".

I'll leave it at that because I'm not going to get into a pissing contest regarding the "costs" here.

I get your point and cross reference it with my own conclusion and the answer is

    YES

I'd rather have 500 errors than the site totally disappearing. Lesser of two evils.

Yeah, the occasional 500 is going to happen. But hopefully we have stabilized it to the point that claud3 doesn't have to contemplate the outside world....for a while at least.

I talked with StevenW about destroying coca-cola. He gave me that tired old "not enough money" line again. geez....that guy

Ok here's a very weird problem.
The forum is working for the most part atm, but this particular thread doesn't work at all.
    http://www.psu.com/forums/showthread...n-€5-4bn-deal

It's the only thread that just won't open, after ~30 seconds i get the message that the site could not be opened (404).
Maybe it's just me, maybe you guys can make sense of this - just putting it out there

Thats been happening for ages, its due to a ' or whatever in the thread title. Only way to access those threads is by finding it manually.

Yeah, I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason to this. It is something deep in the bowels of vBulletin and it isn't just us.

Huh.....after I read this, I dug a little further. It is an encoding issue for links with certain special characters.

Compare the link to the thread versus the link to the latest post.

    Thread:

    Latest post:

It is not formatting the Euro symbol correctly. Will need Europe to ditch that currency. But that is beyond me.

    F34R, you're up.
