150Mhz CPU boost on XBO, now in production

    http://www.geekwire.com/2013/xbox-up...u-performance/

"About one month after improving the GPU clock speed, Mehdi added that Microsoft just made another technical boost by upgrading the CPU performance to 1.75 GHZ from 1.6 GHZ."

Interesting, should add wood to the fire and hopefully result in additional real world performance. I guess we'll see if there is separate confirmation from Albert or Marc on this.
    confirmed

Makes sense. They would have to do this in order to keep it in sync with the GPU iirc.

    New clock 1.75Ghz

PS4 is still 1.6Ghz so I guess ps4 doesn't have the thermal overhead to do similar over clocks to CPU/GPU

Where was it ever confirmed what the ps4's CPU or GPU clocks are?

Technically ,we don't have any real verification outside of the GG slides from the KZ:SF reveal and they stated they were using an older devkit. From the information on that slide we could deduce it was 1.6Ghz.

Could have gone up, dunno how likely that would be.

I know that the ps4 dev kits have a max of 2.75ghz cpu (http://www.ps3news.com/playstation-4...x-clock-speed/)

but i'm curious as to how much more powerful are dev kits or do they pretty much have the same exact specs as the console?

That FCC document has nothing to do with the CPU. It's more likely that is the memory clock speed.

It didn't go well the last time they did something like that.
If i remember correctly the XB360's cpu clock speed was also increased shortly before launch and then ~54% broke....

    Let's hope there won't be a RRoD 2.0

    Rather quickly I might add.

Anyways.... this speed bump was expected. Anything that helps improve gaming on the Xbox One is good.

    EDIT:

I don't recall any speed change and I followed it quite closely. They always stuck with the 3.2GHz number.

The RROD was a design issue, not because of it's speed. That's why the X-clamp fix modify made RROD consoles work.

Ok i searched around a little bit and appearantly the RRoD was caused by bad (lead free) solder that cracked when it cooled off quickly or something - my bad.

Anyways the XB1 is a little bigger then the ps4 and has an external powersupply so cooling shouldn't be a problem.

Now i wonder if Sony could do something similar sometime - but i don't want to steer this thread too far off course.

Yeah some Nvidia cards around the same time had the same issue because of the same soldering issue. That kind of solder is not used commonly anymore as it proved to be unreliable in high performance (temperature varying) environments.

Very good to hear, the more even the two consoles, the better the games we get ( since devs won't have to dial down a game for less powerful console)

This is all well and good, but technically what is the increase really going to do. If there is no significant boost, this could be considered just a PR stunt. Seriously, what is the value doing this and is it something significant?

Nah.... Sony wouldn't do that cuz Sony fans would rip them a new one. Hell... if they rip Microsoft for having a power brick with a console they were never gonna buy in the first place..... just imagine the $#@! Sony would get!

Power bricks have 2 big advantages..... they don't add heat to the inside of the console and are far easier to replace then internal power supplies in the event they stop working.

Knowing the Xbox One's huge fan doesn't have to account for the power supply's heat makes me much more confident about the console's reliability.

9 percent increase in clock does not equate to 9 percent powa increase. Realistically, we are only looking at few percent improvements.

It is not much, but better than nothing.
