FTP is great for when you have no money (which was me for 3 years), but the quality in a good sub game more than makes up for the monthly fee when you can afford it.

Oh, and as far as DLC is concerned:

I agree with this post and LOVE this image! That's so awesome .

I've played many mmorpgs and I honestly didn't mind. The play value of a good mmorpg is massive and I usually get what I paid for which is a good couple of years of gameplay depending on how good the mmo is. mainly mmorpgs.

I've never paid a subscription to play a game and I probably won't ever. Unless of course it is a game that I know I will spend a lot of time with. Not even on the horizon though at the moment.

Recently forked over €20 for two months FFXIV time and I will do it again, and again, and again. The experience has to be worth the value in the consumers mind...I am totally in love with this game and to be honest I'm a little tired of transient game experiences. Persistent games where I can invest my time into carving out my own place in a shared world is a lot more exciting than throwing down €60 for a 12 hour experience that will then sit on my shelf.

I'm excited for the future of FFXIV. Things like chocobco breeding and fully customisable player housing for clans are in the works and will arrive in the next and subsequent patches. Yoshi-p Also talked of fully customisable individual player housing too. It's just the very beginning which is the best part.

But we're all different and have diff tastes, circumstances, needs etc so it's all a matter of value or no value.

What's funny is I bet some people who are saying no, have no clue that when they buy DLC every 3 months DLC drops for most games, at $14.99. Pretty much $5 a month when you look at it if you want to be up-to-date for the game you're playing.
