Sony announces PlayStation Vita TV device

Sony has just announced PlayStation Vita TV, a small device that will allow you to play PlayStation Vita games on your telly. It'll cost 9480 yen (£63) and launch on 14th November.
The box has a slot for PlayStation Vita cards and will also be able to access other digital services such as Hulu.
It can also play PS4 titles via Remote Play.
Sony mentions that PlayStation Vita TV is launching in Japan "before other regions", suggesting a release elsewhere is possible.
A pack including a wireless DualShock 3 controller and 8GB memory card will also be available for 14,994 yen (£96).
A full list of technical specifications lies below.

    Source

Sounds like a cool little device. Both PS4 streaming and a way to play the Vita games on a big screen. What is there to dislike about it?

Hopefully Vita games will still look nice when blown up to 1080p but who knows.Still a good idea.

Absolutely love it. No need for multiple consoles around the house, the mrs can have whatever she wants on tv and I can be on the PS4 via PSVitaTV in another room. (Or the Vita itself!)

Most hotels on work trips I've been on all offer in room wifi too so can see this little device getting plenty of use

Using it like that didn't even come to my mind. That's actually a really good application for it.

Just a shame Hotels charge a small fortune for Wifi. I'll stick to using my personal hotspot

Best place to play Playstation 1, Genesis, Dreamcast, Sega CD, PSP and Playstation Vita games along with whatever Playstation 2 games make it to Vita and when GaiKai is released woo hoo hooo this little devices will just do it all.

Sony should be heavily feared right now by competitors.

I saw it as dad daughter son (maybe) watching a movie, sons mates come round and because dad and daughter are watching a movie the son turns the PS4 on and using PSVitaTV is now playing PS4 in his bedroom with PS4 in living the room.

UPDATE: We’ve been sent a few more details on the system from Sony.
    • There will be a system software update to patch in DualShock 4 support.
    • It can connect to other PS Vitas via ad hoc mode.
    • Two DualShock 3 controllers can be paired to the system, allowing for playing PS1 titles.
    • PS Vita can be used as a controller for some Wii U like functionality.
    • Will support “nasne”, a networked recorder and media storage device.
    MUST BUY!!!!!

Wait... Do you need your Vita for this to work? I'm confused.

No, supported games will allow a DS3 and likely DS4 + touch when it releases with PS4.

If you have a Vita my understanding is this will stream from the device to a Vita and or use the Vita as a controller.

Which also means you can take Vita TV to any connected house and play your PS4. Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?

That makes more sense. Didnt seem that obvious in the video though, at least to me that is.

    Not for PSVitaTV to work.
If you've got a tv on a train, bus, plane or the back of a car whilst travelling then no. That's where mine mainly gets used so i have every need for one.

I never actually game on the go so it would be perfect for me BUT I'd still choose the Vita, I like the sleep mode and having it's own screen out of the box without needing to buy any other components etc.

    Agreed.

I'll be getting PSVitaTV purely for PS4 remote play whether it be at a friends or somewhere else away from my house. Saves lugging it around everywhere

I think it will be the same if you had a PS Vita. You can remote play with it. This just gives you the tv option instead of the Vita screen.
