Yeah, the "Detailed Specifications" were in the keynote presentation. Sony never said it would provide detailed technical specifications. There is a month and a half now before launch so detailed technical specifications aren't a priority. The key thing now is getting demo kiosks out with several playable games to show how smooth and detailed gameplay is going to be. Those should show up towards the end of next month.

I am a bit bummed that they didn't go into further detail about the system, but I guess I have no choice but to play the waiting game! The good news is...only 53 more days until that bad boy comes out!!!

True, but I also wanted to find out if the drive will read quad layer blu-ray discs, what type of video formats will the PS4 play (MP4, AVI, MKV, etc.) and we also know very little about Playstation TV. Just hoping for more info about what is to come.

I know MKV's are a LONG stretch! It is just a pain having to recode stuff from MKV to MP4 for it to play on the system...

btw , you probably already know this. But PS3 media player will stream the .mkv stuff to your PS3. Not quite the same , as the controls are laggy (FF , REW etc.) , but it works.

I am fully aware of that, but I don't want to have a dedicated computer running all the time just to stream videos...I currently have a QNAP NAS Server that I use to stream videos, but don't like to transcode since it hurts the video quality.

Why a long shot? My Samsung TV plays MKV files from USB surly a brand new console should be able to play them?

no, you're right, it doesn't play, i'm confusing that with this other format...forgot the name of it. basically that format would support container so you can play subtitles without streaming it or having hardsubs.

your media server shouldn't have issues, maybe your settings are wrong. is your PS3 using wireless connection?

I like to rip my blu-ray collection into MKV so it's easier to switch between movies on the fly! Blu-rays get archived and stored somewhere safe.

MKV support is nice and all but, it will never beat an HTPC playing a movie.

Sony never did reveal the technical specifications for the RSX in the PS3. The two big technical specifications for the PS4 that are surrounded by rumors is the Blu-ray drive and the CPU clock speed. We know the PS4 is a 6X Blu-ray drive and the PS3 has a 2X. The question is if the PS4 is a 100GB drive. As for the CPU clock speed, there are multiple credible sources that say the PS4 CPU has a standard clock of 2GHz and a burst clock of 2.75GHz. Sony might update their technical specs page after TGS or after launch.

That is another thing I do as well, I have my blu-rays ripped to my server, that way all my devices can play them "on-the-fly" and I don't have to worry about juggling discs!
