Do you get the same quality as you would disc?

He should. Assuming he's over Ethernet or a good N wireless connection with 3 antenna on the card.
My Mom's got agent orange stuff like Parkinsons and can't get around much now, so, i'm building a 9TB media center box, probably with the new silverstone case, that holds all the dvd's and blurays running probably XBMC, i'm just waiting on my final mobo/chips solution. Ripping stuff to the HDD's in one of my big boxes for now looking at the best way to organize the menus and files.

How expensive it is it to do it this vs say a Nasbox?
This seems like a lot stuff to go through vs just getting something like a QNAP or Netgear solution.

I run a cheap and cheerful ReadyNAS NV+ and solid as a rock, no 3tb support but RAID5 4x2tb drives would give you plenty of space, plus rock solid reliability. Newer models do support 3tb.

Between the 360, and two WDTV's in the house, its fully accessible wherever we are in the house.

I have a lot of older ones as well and not all blu-rays come with digital versions, I also like to be able to copy the file to a tablet or hard drive so I don't need an internet connection to watch a movie, comes in handy when I am on a road trip, I can just dump a movie to my tablet and let my daughter watch a movie on it.

The only thing that suffers a little when I rip them is the audio, the video I rip and remux to a MP4 file (no quality loss), but for the audio I have to make the track regular DTS or AC-3 since the PS3 won't play a DTS Master Audio track within a MP4 file, but if I am in the mood for the better audio I will just pop in the disc, but most movies the regular DTS is just fine with me.
