I think you mean "FULL" hd.

Look, I wish all the game were 1080p, with a great frame rate, and awesome visuals. I just don't think that's going to happen as a standard this coming generation. 1080p was touted this generation, and at that claim 720p couldn't even be a standard.

Like someone said earlier, graphic detail over resolution any day, but 1080p should really be a requirement by now. 2.5k is the almost the norm in PC now I say 5 years later 4k will start to take hold
I wonder when a nuclear warhead goes off, does the frame rate of real life drop?

The PC norm isn't relevant to the consoles though.

I just find it hard to swallow the 1080p being a requirement with consoles, when this gen went from the 480p, it hasn't even been able to have 720p as a requirement/norm. I think 720p will be a norm, and 1080p will be a bonus for the next gen.

there were more 720p native games then sub 720p this gen so I say 720 was the norm already

Maybe I should have been more detailed.

decent AA, stable framerate, and 720p.

That should be the norm with the Xbox One and PS4.

That's a pretty small upgrade, this generation it should be better.

I wouldn't think it will be a small upgrade. Stellar performance, great visuals (eye candy included), with hd resolution. I don't see how that would be considered a small upgrade. I would love a huge gap, 1080p, great AA, perfect frame rates, with some gorgeous eye candy.

900p is not a big deal if it doesn't bother you.

Console Video games before the PS3/360 were mostly less than 640x480.

I don't know man I've never experienced bad framerate on my 720p games, atleast not consistent drops. I mean honestly, in my library of 40 games, I can only say bioshock 2, borderlands and assassin's creed games had bad performance dips that I notice and find annoying. Can't think of much else

As far as AA is concerned, games released in the last 2 years have all had post process AA of some kind. I'm pleasantly surprised that every game on both platforms recently actually manages AA on top of native 720p

I think once you see games out this coming generation you'll understand what I mean. I might not be able to explain it right.

i know the distinction, i was merely being jocular

My PC, for instance, runs @1200p and running any variation close to 720p shows a night and day difference. Especially when the native resolution of the screen is greater then in output signal from the console. But like itachi said, i think it was only the unreal powered games that really struggled to maintain 720p30 on Sony's platform.

1080p30 will probably be the standard target for most devs. And with the PS4 not requiring much in the form of technical hurdles, i think you'll see many more devs optimise their code to better achieve that target.

COD reportedly runs at 1080p90. far cry from the now 640p60.
