We don't know any of what SCE London are working on but I don't think we'll be seeing Home at launch.
It'll probably arrive eventually though considering the money it generates.

The same thread on gaf a couple of devs on there are saying you can change them. Also when you highlight a game, the games theme becomes the background

It looks very good. I wonder how it'll look like in 2-3 years though.

Well it looks a lot quicker. Honestly, I'm incredibly psyched to get to try this out. It's a hugely important part of a game console IMO.

Not to start a war but the fact that the 360 has a very "Windows 8" look to it is a huge detractor. That is one AWFUL operating system.

Back on topic though, this looks good but appears to be a somewhat unfinished version of the XMB.

I noticed something they showed called "edit username..." This is what I want..the ability to change my PSN ID or at least what I'm called and show up as in multiplayer games!

All you have to decide is what to do with the time give to you....

That's not in yet, what you are seeing is the initial log in on the ps3 xmb (first row far left)

This same thread on gaf has plenty on explanations from a couple of devs about the new interface (not really an xmb anymore)

Yes, but further to this you can add a name above your ID which is said to show up in multiplayer. Be it your real name or another fake name.
    This may be the workaround.

    Interesting things i found:
    0:02 - system music
    0:03 - devices
    0:08- what's new screen confirmed
    0:19 - edit username
0:23 - system storage management (wonder what could be in here?)
0:25 - after selecting notifications, name requests

    one commenter:
'edit username' is changing the local username
'name request' is sending a friend request to someone via their real name
'friend request' is sending a friend request to someone via their PSN ID

    in what way?

Windows 8 takes some things from the Unity DE in Ubuntu and actually quite a few things from Linux in general.

Responsive and smooth (here is hoping the store doesn't take 10 minutes to open) however it's insanely dated, boring and bland.

the reason why the store takes so long to open is because they wanted to expand the store and the only way to do it was to play it like an app. this way you have all the RAM you possibly could get.

it will likely be instant on the PS4...as they have plenty of RAM to work with.

yup, they don't have a need for more resources so it's all integrated...i bet it's even accessible during a game. which would be pointless almost but still, possible.

They said before that you can purchase and download (including installing) while playing a game.

if that were up to me, i would opt out of that because it's using up RAM that the game can use. however, they needed to do this for the nubbies so we have to compromise.

Nope, has a dedicated chip for all that. It'll not effect games at all

but it's still using the RAM though. the chip is to offload the CPU work.

Exactly, that said I really can't wait until we can get some more info on the custom hardware as so far we know next to nothing about it.

I'm glad there is still some form of XMB (and I hope I can choose my wallpaper), what we saw from the OS (the big windows with chotic sizes with iehter images or text) seems ugly for me, but if it's just the new PS store or the new activity options I just will go there when needed.
