Not bad. Seems the GTX780 is still at the top compared to the R280X. Will be interesting to see how the R290X compares. Suddenly I don't feel too bad about skipping AMD.

The 280 is half the price of the GTX 780
All AMD cards still suffer in Battlefield 3. Wonder why that is.

Seems like the 280x is a 7970 but cheaper.

Fundamentally it really actually is a 7970 with new features and refinements. Not that thats a bad thing if its faster and cheaper :P. Also the reworking of 3 monitors over DVI-DVI and HDMI instead of a mandatory DP socket being used might tempt me to upgrade....

If they bring out a R9 280, essentially a 7950 successor for a good price, I will probably go with that for my next GPU. Hopefully some of the manufacturers offer 4GB versions.

Really liking the sound of Mantle, not only will it increase the lifespan of your GPU but potentially also your CPU

The conference a couple weeks back was really interesting and I would love to see some of the features eventually get put to good use. TresFX is missing one thing though, GRAVITY! Anyway:

I think you mean the 7970 is cheaper, these set of cards are going to replace the 7000 series that seemed to have lasted for like forever. The performance seems to be hit and miss and the GTX 770 seems to be at level terms on a lot of the tests weirdly. It does seem like AMD are playing catch up again and Nvidia are most likely just going to site on their Titan till they do.

That isn't really the point though. How many enthusiasts buy at Titan price point? 1%? The GTX 770 and below is where the war is won and lost and AMD are looking to still be much better price/performance wise there.

I'm glad AMD are pushing but until they can sort out their driver situation (and get them on time, not 3 months later) they'll always be second best.
