    Valve Controller Demonstration Video

Looks very precise and accurate. When the games have native support for this it will be 10x better

Yeah, but didn't really show the button mapping. It would be nice to have some vague but still visible markings on the various buttons for reference.

Its clearly an early prototype. I'd be surprised if the final controller looks so bland

That's because it is a prototype, there's going to be a central touch screen where the 4 buttons are in the centre and the buttons will still be there. They've stated that the 300 beta testers will be getting many revisions until they're satisfied with the final outcome. Wish I could get into the Beta.

The fact you swipe twice on the right owl eye turn and get a precise aim already kills it for me...$#@! is not going to catch on

That is how a mouse works.
ITs in legacy mode so its not setup as a controller because the not all the games in the video support this controller.
The cursor only moves when you move your thumb along the pad thing and how fast you move it.

I have no doubt ALL Valve games (portal, TF2, DOTA 2 and more) will get updates to support the controlled fully

I've played with a mouse before and it definitely looks more intuitive

Can it be used without lifting your thumbs off the pads so much?

I was already heavily interested in the pad when it was announced, I'm pretty much sold after seeing how flexible it's going to be as per the above video.

It looks ok, but I'll have to try it for myself. The idea to control a pointer intuitively with a controller is intriguing. I hope it works great.

Answer to both questions is a definitive no!

yes with the correct sensitivity but a wrist controls it better than a thumb.

Eventually you will run out of space.
I bet mousing now even simply browsing websites you lift your mouse off the desk, you just do not realise you do.

Exactly, I've always ran a very high sensitivity on my mice but it's just impossible with today's resolutions to not having to move the mouse off the table or mat now unless your mouse area is 1mē!
