    Playstation 4 with Computer Monitor

Hey there! I preordered a playstation 4 and I want to hook it up with my Dell computer monitor wich doesnt have any built in speakers. I'm gonna connect it via HDMI-DVI cable and I was wondering how am I gonna get audio? Since the PS4 only have optical audio out and my Logitech speakers have 3,5mm jack cables what's the way to get sound?

Are there any cables/converters which wont decrease audio quality?

To use the optical out You will need a Digital to Analogue converter (DAC) then that should have the connections for your speakers to plug into.
Are the jack cables red and white on the logitech speakers?

You can try one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Tex-To...+to+3.5+female

Then use a female to female adapter.

I'm in the same boat, but I just assumed the PS4 would have a standard analog AV output like the PS3. Is this not the case?

So your computer does not have speakers? Why would you want to play a PS4 on a small monitor anyway?

run a cable from your Dualshock 4's headphone jack to the speakers... or use a stereo headset.

I'm in the same boat a little bit. I currently use my PS3 hooked up via HDMI to my TV and then I use my audio via RCA to my stereo. Is there a cable out there that I could still do this with the PS4?

You'll need a box that takes the TOSLINKs SPDIF audio and converts it to an Analog 3.5mm output. There's many of them out there. Here's an example of one http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Analog...oaxial+%2F+USB

just get an av receiver. especially if you care about audio quality.

    PS4 Launch Edition
    PS3 60GB (Upgraded to 500GB)
    Phenom II X4 955, HD 7770 1GB, 6GB RAM

If you add my PSN say you're from PSU or I might delete it!

Based on the fact that he's going to be playing on a monitor, I doubt he has the money to get an AV receiver.

The PS4 will still have the standard AV output in addition to HDMI right? You can get a Composite-to-3.5mm adapter. Use the HDMI for video but put the audio through the standard output. PS3 did let you separate the video and audio signals like that so I assume PS4 will as well.

EDIT: This is what I mean. http://www.amazon.com/Cblwhl-Female-.../dp/B000I98ZM8
It has some pictures to show how it works too.

If this was my audio setup I would upgrade promptly. Mainly because I'd say you're missing out on the quality side of things. Also it would solve you're connection problem.

Off topic: Did Sony comfirm that the monoheadset jack could work as stereo out, or was that just wishful thinking on my part?

No, it's only supporting HDMI out (and Toslink for an alternate Audio output.)

Yes, Sony confirmed the 3.5mm jack on the controller will also support Stereo game audio output.

I noticed the free headset jack has 3 stripes on it as opposed to 2 on regular ones, I guess 1+2 for left and right the 3rd is for the mic?
I have a senheisser headset which has separate jacks for sound and mic, is there such a connector to combine the 2 together?

    EDIT:
Found this so should work I think.

Hum, not that I'm aware off, that said the Controllers 3.5mm Audio output is only going to be Stereo Game Audio or Chat, not both.

It is interesting that the Mono Headset has a TRRS (Tip + 3 contacts) 3.5mm jack that would normally be used for Stereo / Chat (i.e. what you normally get w/ today's smart phones.) It would only need to use TRS (Tip + 2 contacts) for Mono+Voice.

The Sennheiser's use two TRS. You'd simply plug one in if you're wanting it for Chat and the other in if you're wanting it for Audio but you can't do both through the Controller.

That said, most AV Receivers have 1/4" Stereo Output plug and you could run stereo audio from it (if you have one) to your headset, 1/4" to 3.5mm adapters are cheap, and get a long 3.5mm cable. Or if you don't have an AV receiver you can go w/ a Toslink adapter mentioned earlier.

Currently when I want to go headset only because of sleeping family members I use my AV receiver's 1/4" Stereo Output plug.

You're going to lose sound quality. There is no way around that. The only way you could avoid losing sound quality is to get an audio receiver that has either HDMI or Optical Audio inputs. Any converter is only going to convert the sound to 2 channel stereo.
