    TV or Monitor for PS4?

Hey Guys. I hope I'm in the right place.

As I have the PS4 on pre order, i'm looking into getting a new tv/Monitor. I have had my Samsung TV (22" 720p) for a long time now. I just have a few questions. Considering i don't really watch tv in my bedroom when ill be gaming, Should I invest in a larger Monitor to use as my Main display for the ps4 or should i just got the TV route. I've heard a lot of goof things about monitors and i was wondering should i head in that direction.

    Thanks

    Greg

I find monitors give a better picture and response times than TVs but you are limited on size and would have to buy a separate pair of speakers (if you don't own those already)

I will use my old Samsung for my tv, If i decide to us it. Because im from the UK but live in USA i usually watch my UK shows online (Laptop). Also size really isn't that big of a deal. Like you said in your other post 32 would be too big in my room also.. Prob go with 24/27". I do have speakers also so i don't have to spend more money on them

Monitors tend to be cheaper too. I guess it depends on how much you'd miss not having TV in your room.

Lower end monitors can be cheaper. But they'll often give a terrible picture.

In that case go for a monitor. I find them often miles better than TV's Asus, BenQ, LG, Samsung and Viewsonic are good bets. How much are you willing to spend?

About 200. I didn't want anything bigger than 32, so maybe a 24/27" for my bedroom becaUse it's only small and I always sit close to the tv. 2/3 feet away. Only way I can get in the zone.

I have a 32" 720p HDTV and I sit just about 2 to 3 (max) feet away, typically 2.3 feet is optimal for me. Any further and it just doesn't feel right for gaming (works for movies though). I honestly don't know how a bigger set, like a 42" and above, would work for me as I like to sit close.

However if you are using a 22" 720p HDTV, and are used to that, I suggest a 24" 1080p monitor. You can get some pretty dang good ones for under $200 too. And monitors blow away HDTV's by far too, as they are meant to be extremely detailed while sitting really close

Asus monitors I have found to be pretty decent, and they are priced right too.

    For example: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VS248H-P-...1080p++monitor

Got this for a customer and it is a very nice monitor. 1080p, 50 million:1 contrast ratio (likely exaggerated, but still impressive), LED backlight, 2ms refresh rate and under $200.

    I bought a 27" 1080p monitor yesterday to prepare for ps4. Asus MX279H

For reference, I had a 42" 1080 TV all this gen but I wanted a monitor in my room so I can game without being dependent on the living room being available

Yeah i also just upgraded from a 32in Philips HDTV to a 43in Samsung HDTV only for $350 can't wait to get my ps4 and see how great KZ:SF and BF4 look on it.

Id recommend just buying a HDTV so then you want have to buy speakers for it

TV is good for sure but you have to pay more to get a good gaming tv. Samung or Sony series W9 is the best for gaming and movies. But each TV cost 1999 now, so if I was you. I would wait until I get enough money to get a good gaming TV and not wasting my money.

Honestly, Asus just made a SONY Bezel on a Panasonic Stand, and i gotta call that a win, lol!

This is an awesome looking monitor. I gotta say it probably beats either my 5 year old LG 27 in or my 3 year old Vizio (Both IPS) 120hz 1080p 32 in TV I use for a primary. Very very very very sweet looking.

I see we have the same headset, remember it's not gonna work day one, but a fix is due very fast.

    1080p 60hz
    09ms Input Lag
    5ms Response Time

    Hello Itachi.

I signed up specifically to ask you a few questions regarding your new monitor. The Asus MX279H to be exact.

You see, i'm also looking for a monitor for the upcoming consoles but it's proving to be more difficult to find an ideal one for myself than i previously imagined lol...

How's your new monitor treating you so far by the way? Do you have any regrets buying it or is it everything you'd hoped for?

Does it ever get blurry/fuzzy when you play a game. Is it sharp and colourful? For instance in the XMB menu and when you play 720p & 1080p games? Does it at anytime lose quality?

And finally do you prefer the larger 27" screen over the smaller 23.5" screen?

That's all. Sorry for the random message lol. I just want to be sure before i pull the trigger and purchase this monitor. Many thanks!

    Hey Itachi,

I finally saved enough money to purchase a Ps4 and an Asus MX279H from amazon. I was looking all over for preferred settings for the Ps4 and Asus combo and was wondering what custom settings you have used/tried for your moniter. I was previously using my main tv http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/TC-P65ST60 for ps3 (custom settings were easier to find online) but with 5 roomates its hard to actually find time to game on the main tv, thus the switch for personal use. If you could let me know your settings or point me in the right direction to find the right settings for my Ps4 and Asus it would be much appreciated.

    Thank you for your time,
    Joe

    Hey Joe,
The thing is I actually didn't mess with much of the settings. I did look through them, there's a "Gaming Mode" on the monitor that makes the response time even better albeit at the cost of some colour depth. Since I've never had issues with response times, I keep my settings at default. I'm not too picky about these things so I may not be the best person to ask. I got these shots for you as reference

I run in standard mode and the only thing noticeable when switching between them is the color and brightness changes to the picture
