I'm kind of in the same situation, only I'm trying to think if I should get a Vita, 3DS, or neither. I'm honestly trying not to think about it anymore so I'm *trying* to avoid stuff. I got a really bad impulse buy problem when it comes to gaming...

However, $200+ just for remote play - at least at this moment, maybe wait till after PS4 is launched to decide? - doesn't seem like a good deal to me. Though, I base most of my gaming discussions on how good games are and if it has good "hour per dollar" value. For me, each system has 10+ games I want but the 3DS has many more 20+ hour games than the Vita does. Getting games via PS+ makes the Vita quite a bit cheaper, but the "hours per dollar" sucks in comparison.

It changes according to your lifestyle. In my case, I need to use metro to go to work everyday, 30 min to go , 30 min to come home, 1 hour total, is my Vita time. It is a must have for me. And just like Fenix said, Vita is free with Ps+.

You see that is the issue for me, I think I would just use it for remote play so when the missus wants to watch Emmerdale I can still carry on playing, but I'm just not 100% sure I would use it anywhere else. But I LOVE the idea of remote gaming

here is my opinion. i own Vita and 3ds, I have bought them within 4 weeks. If you live in EU 3ds is the BAD choice for you, there is not so many games on the market, espesially if you not grow up on nintendo games. Ocarina of time is the awesome game, but i dont feel conected to the Link and to the world, simply because i always was sega/sony user. Mario 3d land - good! Monster Hunter Ultimate...well not with that screen. Also its region loked - this is the most stupid thing ever!!
If you have ps+ vita is the must buy for you!! 90% of my vita collection consist from ps+ freebies. MUCH better hardware and services. Also PS4 remote play is awesome addition to the functionality.

My biggest faults with Vita were proprietary memory and no hdmi-out. They've fixed HDMI out so I was almost sold until they revealed Vita TV. I'll have to see once the new Vita arrives. Decisions, decisions..

I don't get the idea behind remote playing , especially with those monsterious graphics ps4 have. we didn't see with naked eyes yet, I am not sure If I will get the same experience with Vita but I do not understand the point with me playing with Vita those amazing ps4 games.
But I don't think Sony will let go of Vita for a few years even it fails hard, sale-wise. And it is really hard to resist it for a gamer

I don't regret buying two vita systems at all. I love the games. The memory is still over priced, but the price coming down was welcome. Look at the game library.. If the games fit what you want to play, the it is a no brainer. I wouldn't have bought it only for remote play.

I don't think I would've bought a vita for only remote play. Hard to judge before we see how it will be like on PS4 before launch, but I love my Vita for a quick 15-20 min game of this or that. Machinarium is perfect for me in that sense. I bought it more because I knew there were a lot of older psp games that I missed out on top of some Vita games I really wanted to play.

    Loving the Vita.

BUT you have to like the games for anything else to really matter. It's difficult though cos save for Patapon I didn't enjoy the PSP at all and sold it, and wasn't a handheld gamer at all.

But loving everything about the VITA.

    #IndieStation4 and proud of it.

I would look at the remote play AND the vita's gaming library to make my decision.

The titles that are available are very enjoyable, Just seems like more could of been done to keep some of them alive Unit 13 would of been awesome with multiplayer action.
