I really don't care about all the fiasco surrounding MP3 playback at all, for the 7 years i had my PS3 i played music once.
As for the DLNA, i think it's not very useful. most TVs support it and it's barely being used. But, that is still bull$#@!.

I don't mind the PS4 being a game console only, but knowing Sony, and how's the industry moving, that's isn't going to happen.

I will say $#@! you Sony, i'm a loyal customer, but i won't bend over just cause i like you.

Personally i don't care, i never used my PS3 to play music or stream video. I got a games console for erm well games.
But like others say and have said, the firmware is still young and things will get added over time.

I'm in the same boat, barely used MP3 and sporadically used DLNA (where I'd usually cave and transfer the files onto a stick and use the TV USB port).

But yeah, these features not being there is questionable.

SATA II HDD but is it a SATA III chipset? Most Likely.

9.5mm HDD: Odd considering what others have already measured at 12.5. Maybe for cooling room?

HAve you checked this out? And the PS4 FAQ thread for that matter.

Not sure if it answers your questions though just thought it'd be worth seeing.

Exactly what I was thinking! I love the custom soundtracks on The Show! Can't believe they are taking a big step back like this. I swear this is all $#@! to push their $#@!ing music service. Ugh. Very disappointed right now. This better get added in later.

In previous cases, they've been pretty spot on this year. #PS4noDRm for instance.

In this case, yes, that remains to be seen and we can't pre-dispose them to do one way or the other until we see what actually happens.

Though if you're a keen gamer keeping up on news this year, you'd give Sony 2013 model, the benefit of the doubt to at least try.

Basically, don't presume that thy're going to already fail on that part, when they've hit more than miss with regards to communicating with consumers/gamers.

Come on guys, you're better than this.

    No dlna!! >: {

WTF! Sony keeps taking pages from the MS book! And bad ones at thats!

The PlayStation 4 will not support client functionality for media servers, Sony announced today in the Ultimate FAQ for the console on the PlayStation Blog. The FAQ also confirms the Sony's next-gen console will not support DLNA devices for sharing and streaming videos and other media content from a home PC. Sony's PlayStation 3 does include DLNA support and allows users to access their PC's media from the console's dashboard.
Earlier this year, Microsoft noted that the Xbox One will not work as a Windows Media Center Extender, which would have allowed users to connect multiple devices running Windows. DLNA support, while possible on the Xbox 360, is still unconfirmed for the Xbox One.
    http://www.polygon.com/2013/10/30/50...-functionality

As much as I hate it, this better just be a case of yet unfinished firmware like EVERYONE seems to think is a feature now a days to release half baked products>fix later. Hell you even have to enable Blu-ray playback this time. What are you thinking Sony!!?!

    1. No DLNA
    2. Blu-ray playback has to be enabled after the fact
    3. My cache clearly needs to be cleared because I just posted a thread on these very isuess a few minutes ago and was wondering why the Ultimate FAQs hasen't been posted here, just to come back to the PS4 page and see this which was here longer than this visit to PSU

Edit: Caught it faster than I could type/my ikky connection allows me to move I see!

I think Sony rushed a lot of features etc to get this product out the door this year to get a jump this gen unlike last gen. They got the game part down and decided they could update f/w the rest of the features because getting 5 million sales by march was more important than having EVERYTHING working day 1. If games work, PSN works, PS Store works, and those normal functions work I don't care about the rest. Never used my PS3 for any of that stuff...and I remember the PS3 launch....NOTHING WORKED FEATURE-WISE...they patched as much as they could but stuff like party chat etc never made it. I believe these functions will be there later...but early adopters will get a stripped down console....ALL about GAMING...and that is fine. Online and Games work....we are good to go!!!

Well no point of plugging one in if you want to play music/movies. Also odn't think it supports external Hdd for game data.

that 1TB+ hdd is a must now for me with all the sizes of the game data as well.

I thought Sony had gotten a hold on all their divisions and were using them to their advantage. Connect lost back then (and because of it I can't use SonicStage any more if my HDD dies) You can do all this stuff on the PS3. It's not perfect per se, but I sure abused it! What is going on over there!? This is a step backward for Sony as a whole and not just PlayStation.

Yeah I love how features they touted at PS3 release are not present. You know all that stuff about it only does everything. I thought that was a given those features would be there.

This is the best drive you can buy today for a ps3/ps4 without being ridiculously expensive.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo

Although it would probably be foolish to upgrade when you first get your ps4, since new, higher capacity HDD's will likely be released in the next 1-2 years. 500GB should be sufficient for the first few years.
