Xb1 voice controls - Give me remote or give me Death!

Lets be honest. Is there anyone here who would be willing to give over your remote for your TV right now if a repairman said he could switch it to voice control? All I can think of is I have headphones on late at night so as not to disturb my kid asleep on the couch beside me and I'm whispering loudly to my damn TV.

You can have my remote when you pry it from my cold dead hand. Button pushers unite.

~ Microsoft and l had a disagreement on the primary function of the Xbox One. I wanted to use it to play games and they wanted to use it to screw me.~

Its a nice addition to a controller Adds extra actions to the game without taking up extra buttons.

Voice control is a good feature. It's awesome that you can navigate the console just using voice. It's a handy feature.

I wouldn't use voice control INSTEAD of a remote; but I will use it in addition I'm sure. I've seen some things that will work really well it seems when using the controller for one thing, and the voice control for something at the same time...

I think the idea of voice control is great. Why are so many people against kinnect? Everyone who bought a smart tv disagrees with you, and i'm sure there are a whole lot of them.

As long as it not mandatory, than it's totally fine as an option.
But force us to use it and people will be upset.

    I'd like both.

If I were an Xbone gamer, I wouldn't want a Lair debacle - where you only had SIXAXIS control and couldn't use traditional controls (which later had to be patched, but was too late for the game). So having both options is great.

To me, I'd honestly only use it for sports games say Madden. But I don't think it has the realistic support of calling plays (though would be cool if EA did something like that) along the lines of E.g."21 Panther Trips Y Zig".

I'm not sure the point of this thread but I don't believe this is an either/or proposition. It's a feature that you can choose to use if you want.

BTW, I just saw a DishTv commercial that is touting voice-activated features for it's new DVR. It appears that MS isn't the only one showing off this new tech. Our phones already have this ability too. Not sure why this is only a bad feature on the One.

personally I think voice activation is great, I am person who loses remotes, and also I hate pausing to do something. I can't see it as a negative at all.

For me it would be a useless feature. If I'm going to use my game console then I also need to turn on the TV, stereo, and change the default stereo input (It defaults to our STB/DVR). If I'm already watching TV then I need to turn off the STB/DVR, turn on the game console, and change the input on the stereo.

Currently I can do all of this with a single finger press on the input screen of my Logitech Harmony remote. Using voice commands would take longer and requires more effort.

However, that does not mean I'm against other people using it, or having that option straight out of the box. It just means it's a useless feature for me.

I would use it from time to time. I think it would be cool movies saying pause and play. That would be very convenient. I wouldn't use it solely but it is a nice feature to have. I use it on my phone from time to time.

    Hmm. Okay.

I see your points. Good posts. Maybe I was a little quick to hate. Since I am only getting a Ps4 I wont get a chance to try it out and see if I like it though since it is my understanding that you need that extra OS for the "always on" to make use of it. I'm sure there will be lot's of threads of peoples reviews and uses a couple months after Xb1 release.

    Til then.

Not gonna be able to try myself. But would be cool if it allwoed for dynamic responses (in games like ME and other RPGs) as well as in sports games.

But won't PS4 also sorta have this functionality (voice)? Maybe limited? I remember seeing something on this before.

Yep, PS4 has voice control.. You won't even need a camera to use it either, it can be done with the packaged ear bud chat thingy..

So is that the primary function of that speaker?

I'm sure that voice control is limited to just the dash though . It's probably not as in debt as kinect's where you can do almost anything with voice. I wanna see how in debt sony's voice tech will get though.
