Wii U Sales and Numbers Thread

Found on another site. You can't make this stuff up. Look at the last page of their document.
    http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2013/131030e.pdf

On it you'll see that they only have 3 territories, Japan, US, Other. Other shows (1) which is negative 10,000 Wii U's. So in the rest of the world 10,000 more Wii U's were returned to stores than were purchased in the last 6 months.

Fear....That doesn't address what I posted at all. Outside of Japan and the US, they had 10,000 more Wii U's returned to stores than purchased...

So the Wii U is a year old 3 days after PS4 releases. Does anyone know total worldwide sales for the Wii U?

Yes, which is a far cry from what they had hoped for and predicted. I believe they predicted 5.5 million Wii U's sold by March 31st then they lowered that to 4.5 million. Now it's Oct 31 and they're just under 4.0.

My heart bleeds for the Wii U.

Nintendo has the most consistently high-quality titles around, unfortunately its because they take their time. If only they had more dev teams, so it wouldn't take so damn long in-between big games.

Whoa I found this little article on the IGN Forums. Does this mean that this Christmas is make or break for Wii U?

Wii knew this system was going to have problems and it is the lack of top games not coming out earlier and the NAME

I'm pretty sure that Mario isn't going to turn things around for the Wii U this Christmas. Most likely they'll give up on the console. Nintendo does make quality games but not every Nintendo game is quality obviously. That said, they're having a lot of delays on their games, I want to say I read back during the summer that Nintendo was having a hell of a time figuring out HD.

Nintendo's problem (always has been on home consoles) is that despite having high quality exclusives, they take their damn time and sometimes don't even keep certain series going.

True, I remember waiting for "Earthbound 64" and it never even came out in the US. That really made me mad at the time. I was getting Nintendo Power and in the upcoming games list they kept delaying it for years until it just disappeared.

You know, if I'm thinking about buying a product and the company's CEO says that they'll know in 3 months if they'll discontinue it or not, I'm not going to buy it until after I hear the decision. Iwata has sabotaged the Wii U.

According to a NeoGaf NPD leak thread, Wii U only sold 225,000 Wii U consoles in the US during November. That's the biggest sales month of the year in the US. This is bad. Really bad. This puts them on track to sell just around 1 million Wii U's in the US during their fiscal year. They might get a little higher but I wouldn't expect more than 1.1 or 1.2 million from April 2013 to March 2014 (their fiscal year). Keep in mind that we know for a fact based on their financial reporting that they only sold 230k Wii U's in the US from April to September. 1 million a year means that they're going to abandon the platform. I can almost guarantee it. 2014 will probably be Wii U's last year of releases.

wow...i mean, i kinda knew Wii U was going to fail but this hard?

what does this mean for Nintendo's future in home consoles? I know they can easily release another console. but i also know that they're not crazy enough to go the MS/Sony route and spend too much on R&D.

if they do ax this console, i reckon they will come out with something interesting again. just unbelievable though, right after having the Wii which turned some heads.

but instead of axing this console, they should just try to give discounts and deals...axing it would shake the confidence of the consumer and their own shareholders too much.

Yes, they were losing money earlier this year, they admitted it. THEN they lowered the price $50 so....

Well, obviously it's just speculation on my part that they'll abandon the platform but I just don't see how it could be sustainable if they can only sell 1 million a year. In terms of what they would do if they discontinue it? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they'll put out a hybrid handheld/TV console or a 3DS TV like the Vita TV? Maybe they'll just put out a new console. There's plenty of options available to them including continuing to make games for the Wii U but unless they can find a way to increase the install base it will never be profitable.

    edit:
Also, let me add this. These types of sales figures and news will do nothing but push away sales. Even those that are considering purchasing it - why would they do so knowing that sales are so bad? It makes more sense for most people to wait and see what happens next year. Who knows, they might be able to get it for 100 bucks on clearance if they still want it. Or they could buy it next year with a much better bundle and price if Nintendo keeps supporting it and pulls some desperate moves. So the "wait and see" reaction that most people will have because of this type of news will further depress their sales. At least that's how I see it.
