Kojima aiming for Photorealism for MGSV + Pics

And this gen is just beginning...

Recently Kojima Productions released four new Metal Gear Solid V screens, showing off photorealistic environments. However, according to Kojima the studio is having trouble maintaining that level of realism with the character.

“In the screenshot taken from FOX engine that we recently released, u can see the reality comes in when we take Snake out. That’s my headache.”

“In fact we’re aiming photo-realistic graphic quality in MGSV but once Snake comes in that frame, such reality get lost.”

Kojima is known as a perfectionist, so it’s to be expected he will never be truly satisfied with his own work. But maybe this means some improvements on the character models will be made during the rest of the game’s development.

If that is how the graphics actually turn out then that will be epic, let's hope they can sort out the issue of it dropping when the main character is in the picture as well, kind of defies the point if they can't lol!

No matter what, this game is gonna be amazing!
    I have no worries whatsoever.
    I can't wait for this on PS4.

It does look amazing, I hope they manage to figure it out without screwing up the goodness too much.

DING DING DING! The crazy, off the wall story lines and atrocious animations always seem to keep me away from the MGS series now.

? For a next-gen title this isn't at all "mind blowing". BF4 on next gen platforms and PC demolish everything I'm seeing here.

In fact, if I recall correctly this title is aiming at 1080p and 60fps on PS4 so it's not horribly taxing.

Do we even know if this is the next-gen version? Wasn't the first trailer made with the current-gen version?

Ok, that looks nice and all, but are you guys not looking at these at full size? Cuz, there's not really anything remarkable going on in any of those screenshots. Doesn't look like anything that wouldn't be possible on the PS4 running the 2007 edition of the CryEngine editor, TBH.

Yeah, it looks about as good as the first Crysis (maybe a teeny bit more polished) which was released 6 years ago.

I would have supported Kojima more if this engine was focused only on next-gen consoles. it's not.

In the summer I was blown away by MGSV but now I've seen more impressive things so the shots in the OP, while great are not the top tier visuals I expect (mostly cuz this game is also cross gen)

The ground zeros reveal was on PC made to current gen specs. The E3 gameplay demo was PC (not sure)

lol that's a load of BS. not your statement but them telling us that. why? Because a PC with 512MB RAM cannot ever deliver that. unless they actually built it for that ONE PC they have.

what they mean is that they had a PC with awesome specs that is "emulating" what they think current gen consoles will likely deliver. and of course it will not look that smooth or run at that resolution or fps on current gen.

A guy I know makes maps for Half life 2 and he used some real world textures from the Louvre in Paris, a friend of his took them while he was there.
All that wonderful art and he was taking photographs of the floor and walls. He got some strange looks he said.

The map file ended up being 85MB which is pretty large for a HL2 map.

true but to be honest, the PCs even now won't be able to deliver Crysis 1 graphics with 1080p and 60fps. that game just pushed things too far. You'd likely need a top of the line dual GPU setup.

People were doing that when the game released. My GTX 570 runs Cryisis 1 no problem, like 90+fps. Hell, my old 4850 (got it in 2008 ) could max it at 60fps at about 1600 x 900.

then it's unfair to compare when your game doesn't meet the specs like the one we're comparing it to.

if you're running crysis with a 570 GTX at 90fps, you must have some settings lowered, and it's likely not at the highest settings and/or resolution.

Nothing unfair about it. That's what a basic comparison is.

Everything is at max, though I may have exaggerated the FPS. In some areas it can be 60-70 (when there's tons of effects). But usually it plays higher between 80 and 100. My point is that Crysis is not difficult to run anymore, and really hasn't been for a while now.
