    For those who care, KZ:SF uses FXAA+TMAA

    @StevenTerHeide1 @WebinventDotCom We use FXAA + TMAA now, will dig deeper in a future publication, but it does complement each other..

    IMHO.....1080p games don't need AA. It's nice don't get me wrong, but I would have rathered them up the fps.

    Killzone 2 was the best! But the AA used made it a little muddy.

    Please GG, make a PS4 HD collection of killzone and even add the PSP/Vita games.

    PS4 has little to no competition.

    I kinda disagree. 1080p games still have enough aliasing to warrant AA. Plus now we are using post process AA that barely takes 1-2fps down from your performance. I refuse to accept any jaggies in the coming gen. Its almost 2014 we shouldn't have to deal with aliasing anymore.

    I think 4k is where you don't need AA (there will still be jaggies but not noticeable)

    The need for AA is kinda related to the final output res with the size of the monitor, view distance and pixel density. Its like how tablets or phones that start to push 1080p or go over look smooth is because there are just so many pixels for the image to be painted over, that and jaggies or aliasing issues are just too small to see. Your right though with 4K not needing AA, but on smaller screens like a 40" 42" tv where the pixel size would be so small.

    I'd take 1080p with no AA than 720P with 4x or more AA on a 1080p screen any day. Having the output image match the screen res with no scaling what so ever I feel makes a better image. But each to their own

    you don't even need zoom to see that the left picture has jaggies on the hair. AA 'cleans up' the image

    FXAA is what let these last PS3 games look so great, giving a hint of next gen. TMAA is probably in-house, SMAA was. It makes a big difference, the outline edges are so sharp without being overly contrasted. FXAA is super fast and TMAA is probably faster.

    I dunno....I play a lot of my PC games at 1080p with no AA on my 32inch HDTV and it's not so noticable that it bothers me.

    It really depends on the game though.

    Some games, like Batman AA, are well done so that you don't really notice hardly any jaggies at 1080p.

    Then there are those like Battlefield 4 where you can notice them. Either way, even with BF4, they aren't that bad.

    TMAA should be a temporal solution which should make thin things look better even in small movement. (Similar what is in SMAA T2x and UE4 temporal solution.)
    FXAA, well it's cheap solution and hopefully they integrated it as part of TMAA and not just use it after it. (can cause false gradients)

    GG did some good things with MLAA (was it?) on the PS3. i don't like MLAA, yet its implementation by GG was barely noticeable in Killzone. been out of the loop recently, but wtf is TMAA?

    on a smaller screen they don't but i think a small solution on a big screen would work. but yea, i don't like AA too much either, i'd rather they freed up the resources. BF3 did a good job with the lack of AA...somehow i noticed more issues with AA on.

    yea, i would want AA on a 1080p game and it all depends on what you're playing the game on. I did not care for AA on my monitor if the resolution was 900p but it wouldn't hurt.

    Noooooooooooo! I hate AA...unless you give me 1080p. the whole dynamic changes on a big screen. 720p with AA looks horrid. I want BF4 to give us the option to turn it off. BF3 without AA looks better and it performs better.

    If you guys want to know the difference between the different types of AA.

    Download THIS video by the creators of SMAA Jorge Jimenez and co. at the university of zaragoza, I'm sure other companies created their own variations but, it is a fascinating video.
