new consoles to sell less games?

with all of the non-gaming features that these new consoles are supposed to support, won't that affect the sale of games?

People won't need to purchase as many games as they used to because supposedly they'll be able to do other things besides playings games.

    What do you all think?

also how many games are you all looking to have this gen. I"m thinking I want to have atleast five times the amount I had this gen, which stands at 22 games.

I don't think people will not buy as many games, because it is mainly for games with the other stuff added in. But, jeez how much money do you have thats like over 100 games, and games might cost 60 dollars this generation if you buy them new. I only have 9 games for this generation, and most of those were 20 dollars, and gifts. I definetly want to get more games this generation though.

In 5 years of owning a PS2 I have bought roughly 30 titles, I will probably do the same for the next generation.

I will be buying this console for gaming, anything else will be an added extra but I don't plan to use it as anything else except a gaming platform.

I usually buy a game after reading several magazines and on-line reviews. If a game gets a 9/10 or higher, I'll pay the $50 bucks. If it's an 8/10, I might buy it at full price, if it seems to offer a unique experience, but I'll usually wait until the price drops or get it used, in the $20 to $30 range. 7/10 and below, I don't waste my time on it...usually. =)

Concerning non-console functionality leading to the purchase of less games, I divide my time between movies, music, relationships and games as it is. I'm not sure why this should change.

it's not that I'm actually going to reach that many, but that is what i'm going to try for.

I figure I'll try to get 2 games per month assuming they're good ones which should add up to 24 a year given that the console will probably go a good 5 years your looking at over 100 games but i'm leaving room for those times when i can't do that. so you figure that number if i stick to the plan will be about 60+ if I can do that then i'll be allright.

but really it's just a competition between me and a friend to see how many game we can get next gen. it started with this gen and we're both at the same amount of games. Then we rank those games on gamespot to see who has a higher ranking collection. that's all that is.

You must be careful not to just rely of reviews from people you don't know. If I did that I would of never played Driv3r in the first place. I get games that come down in price or a just rent them and see if there good.

Most of my games I have never actually completed, games like GTA, MGS 2, Red Faction, FFX, Silent Hill etc I bought & finished, but with limited time these days, I prefer to buy games I can play having a few beers with my mates, stuff like Tony Hawk, World Ralley Champoinship, NBA Jam, Any game with fun multiplay I love, I really have no care about actually playing online, but when you and your mates are playing all on the one screen having a blast, its great!!
Thats why I have so many titles, I just see it & go "That would be wikkid to play wif da boyz!"

It'll be even more "awesome" when you can connect two TVs to your PS3 so you can have more friends over or at least let them have more "screen real estate"

    Yeah, that would be wikkid!!!!!

Instead of Monday night football, make it Monday night NHL 2007 with all your mates over playing on 2 HD TV's. I like that idea a lot!!!!!!!!

I really should start saving though...

I'm wondering how the NHL games have been working, considering there has been a NHL lockout for the past season, and maybe the next. Who knows maybe forever, but anyways like how do the rosters work, or do you just play lockout, and see who will cave in first the players or the owners. Oh, the excitement!!!

my whole thing is I want to expand my game genre, for me it's mostly been sports games a few adventure here and there. along with the big name games but this time I want to get into every type of genre. but still keep my core games rolling (sports) I mean i've been playing madden since 94 and i haven't looked back since. and thats a given for next gen.

    Reviews and Word of Mouth

True. Word-of-mouth is just as important as reviews. Concerning reviews though, if I see a game that is about a 7/10 or 8/10, I'll usually go to a website that compiles reviews like:

    http://www.gamerankings.com/

    or

    http://www.gamestats.com/

Sometimes reading the most pessimistic review of a game and also the most optimistic review will give you a great idea what you're in for. If I had waited to hear from people I know then I might have missed out on Beyond Good and Evil!

As long as they make games worth playing, the games will sell.

i really would not be suprised if they don't sell as many games. because as the topic creator said, with all the extra features that don't apply to games. Even though i really don't think that the difference would be that much.

Wow. I am actually kind of shocked. From what I've read, most people either get rid of, or just don't buy many games. I expected everyone here to post a huge number of games they had. I never can let go of a game simply because I'm done with it, but I didn't think I had that many compared to some people here.
    Me: 43-ps1, 62-ps2, 13-xbox, 11-pc.
Am I alone in keeping games? Am I emotionally attached to them? I always spend time with the family first and gaming second, but is it morbid to have so many as long as you're not detatched from your family?

Have to say sony is know best for one of the thing's they started. The great hit's sale. games that sell good well be on that list and go for as low for 20 bucks.

Re: new consoles to sell less games?

I buy my TV to watch TV. I buy my DVD player to watch DVD's. I buy a console to play games. That same is true with most people. The other features aren't going to distract from the games.

As for me, I have 28 games this generation. 12 of which I really enjoyed, and about 10 more that were only ok. I'll probably buy the same amount of games this generation, but seeing as there are more Xbox 360 games worth getting(not just Halo) than last generation, I will make sure I get the good games, unlike what I did this generation. I probably wont get too many PS3 games, but definetly at least 6. As for Revolution, I'm still wondering if it will be smart to get it. Mario 128 and any Zelda they come out with will be worth it, but I just don't know. Maybe I'll get about 3-4 games for it, and only once the price drops.
