    I spent two hours with the Xbox One title, but it felt like I was entering random numbers into a computer rather than actually playing a video game.
    After a painfully generic story intro, the game began teaching me similarly uninspired combat mechanics. While it tries to sound like an in-depth action game with familiar elements like perfectly-timed blocks and focus meters, the actual experience is anything but deep.
    With my left hand completely off the controller, I was able to slice and dice through tons of enemies simply by inputting the same sequence ad nauseum. On a couple of occasions, the game would shift to sequences that involved me defending an area with crossbow stations or ordering my men to block arrows with their shields. These were somehow even less exciting than the tedious swordplay.
    Well that was the final blow this game needed. All those "This was an old build" and "trailer does not showcase the true game accurately" excuses were just that, excuses. Now I have no hope for this.

    That was expected. Going from a 360 kinect core focused game to new hardware with driver issues without kinect core focus. Atleast crytek gets to show off how good their engine can look.

    Destiny and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is all I need for the rest of the year.

    Having played the game myself at a Microsoft event that was here a few weeks ago in Atlanta, I also felt that it was 'blah'.

    However, I did also play Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon and a bit of Dead Rising 3. All of those were decent (crimson dragon) to excellent (killer instinct).

    It has always looked boring, but I was hoping it would redeem itself. This isn't the only preview stating that. The story hasn't drawn me either so far.

    Ouch! Not surprising though. The gameplay has always looked repetitious and boring. Looks like this game is a turd. Propably not going to sell very well either.

    I have no faith in Crytek to make something fun.

    Granted, I never played the first Crysis. I heard that had good gameplay.

    Hmm.

    This reminds me of the Beyond Two Souls criticism recently. Very mixed reviews, but I LOVED it. Story and everything. Didn't even hate the jumping back and forth in time, that people did (I guess people these days just have attention spans of a fruitfly). The only thing for me was paying attention to some of the directions (e.g. during combat) that Jodie had.

    I think for those that like the theme etc of this game, won't have any problems with it. I guess we'll see come the 15th.

    The thing is, if you have repetitive or button mashy gameplay, you better have something else to keep the player interested. Some of my favorite games are button mashers by most people's standards.

    The only hook Ryse had WAS its roman combat. We all know Crytek has no writers to actually have a good story and when all you do is mash buttons how is multiplayer supposed to work?

    Not a big fan of Crytek gameplay mechanics. Their games have always been gorgeous, but with no substance to me.

    So no changes at all compared to first gameplay demo. It was more than obvious Kinect-game turned in hurry into something else. They should have kept it as a pure Kinect-experience. I wonder why they changed it...

    I didn't have a problem with it, but the story did have much less tension than Heavy Rain. It was more about just getting to know an interesting life.

    lol But to stay on topic....Beyond was able to make up for it's controversial gameplay in other areas. I don't think RYSE will have much else going for it besides the visuals. We shall see.

    1) Yes that's true - it felt more urgent. Though I think this was more story-focused. HR was a better overall experience. But I didn't think a better game from the same devs should/or does detract from another game of theirs.

    2) You're right - but I guess we'll see in about a week or so's time.

    So the combat is almost like Assassins Creed combat?? The game looks amazing. I have been on the fence for a while, but this thread is making me lean on the "do not buy" grass.
