The power supply shape and sized surprised me.

But how does that change the position of the Sata socket? will it still fit?

But it's a no brainer - you put the power supply at the exhaust. The fan pushes the exhaust air over the power supply components to dissipate it's heat. Those components can handle a lot higher temps, and it's actually better than being in a brick.

The threads are placed at the same locations relative to the SATA header for all drive heights. Thus you screw a laptop HDD into the cradle as long as it fits, and it will plug into the SATA connector just fine.

Have you seen how big it is? No joke it wouldn't have fit. Its like they simply don't care about efficiency. That power brick is going to suck a tonne of juice.

It does look like there is more room than they stated, but I wouldn't chance putting in a 15mm drive since you always want a little breathing room for the HDD!

This is what I was trying to determine based on info in the official FAQ ("no thicker than 9.5mm") and some of the conflicting reports suggesting that 12.5mm drives will fit. I guess it depends on which side of the drive the extra 3mm is. Can anyone say for sure? Thanks.

They said there is 12.5mm of space, but not to put anything bigger than 9.5mm. The 'mm' is talking about the thickness of the drive. I wouldn't chance putting anything larger than a 9.5mm since it might not give the drive enough breathing room.

It's already been said. I'm just glad we got to see it before the 15th. Is there any way of knowing anything of the background chip just from the outside?

Yeah, it's not like they discussed this issue at all and what they did to address it.

Gotta power the hungry kinect 2.0 some how. You just wait for the wattage figures once the machines release, it'll be comical.

And you are basing this on hard numbers?

PS4 has a 250W psu, I guarantee you the X1's psu has a lower capacity than that.

You can't have more powerful hardware and use less energy.

Seems like Sony wanted to do the first tear down good on them for getting with the times and showing the needs what they wanna know.

Doesn't look to much different to the innards of the PS3 slim, that was Sonys best PS3 design!

The video was too much for me, it was just pure overload I almost came! Still 3 weeks to go !! Can't wait !!

I am glad to see that Sony did the first teardown instead of leaving to other websites, and they did it with style by letting their engineering director do the teardown!

Pffttt... Take a good look at the XB1 teardown pics. It actually could easily have fit and had room to spare. Heck, it could almost fit with the crappy layout they used.

I am pretty sure the XB1 is so big that you could probably fit a full PS4 inside of it!

And toss in a Kinect 2 and spare Power Brick

XB1 is 64% larger by volume than PS4.

Not saying it's ugly, or too large or anything like that. Just saying that MS did a $#@! job of packing this baby in. Looks like they simply tried to direct shrink their Dev units instead of building a space efficient console.
