COD Ghosts: Xbone framerate slightly smoother/PS4 version getting patched

Comparison's and comments from the sites:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyeYn...ature=youtu.be
haracter customization, maps, dynamic events, weapons, gametypes, and constant 60fps multiplayer framerates are ubiquitous across current- and next-gen platforms. The biggest variations between platforms falls upon visuals and player counts. On the current-gen versions Ghosts looks nearly identical, though I did encounter occasional framerate issues during the single-player campaign on PS3 and PS4, whereas my time with the Xbox One version was stable throughout.

    ...

When comparing the PS4 and Xbox One versions side-by-side, there’s little to no variation in textures and effects, but there is a discernible difference in resolution. While both are displayed at 1080p, the Xbox One version upscales the game from 720p resolution. In contrast, the PS4 version runs natively at 1080p, which makes character models, weapons, and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed. The difference is especially apparent on larger-sized TVs, where pixel density weighs more heavily in picture quality.

It’s certainly going to be a sticking point for those who demand the highest fidelity experience, but the difference is harder to identify in absence of a side-by-side comparison.

Oddly, the Xbox One version makes no use of the haptic feedback motors built into the controller’s triggers, and the DualShock 4’s trackpad is used solely as a button to toggle the in-game scoreboard during multiplayer.
    http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/...-ghosts-review

Much has already been made of the shortcomings of the Xbox One version of Ghosts, and so it will probably come as no surprise to hear that the Xbone version is lacking in the visual department. It's not just resolution that has suffered, however, although that in itself is fairly disappointing.

In the single-player game, at least, texture quality can range from average to very poor, and geometry itself can look clipped and badly aliased, giving the game a jaggy, muddy look that does nothing to tell you that your 429 investment was a good one. In some cases, elements of the world look barely textured at all, as is the case when the battle cruiser is seen at the end of the 'Fort Santa Monica Beachhead' mission. It was so bad that I navigated to the dashboard to ensure that the machine had been set up correctly. It had...

Multiplayer also looks demonstrably worse than in the PS4 version, with similar problems afflicting the look of the game. Mechanically it is identical, and at least the game ran stable enough to keep me blaming myself and not the frame rate for any kills I may have suffered. (Although I had no problems with the PS4 build, some users are reporting frame rate issues on Sony's machine.)

Still, whether through rushed/overstretched development or hardware problems (or a combination of both), Ghosts has ended up looking (far, in some cases) worse on Microsoft's machine than on its direct rival.
    http://www.videogamer.com/xboxone/ca...lefield_4.html

    Seems it'll be patched though:
    http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/a-...nfo/1100-4785/

Also, I think it's a mediocre job by the dev teams as the XB1's triggers weren't even utilised and the PS4's trackpad has been made simply a scoreboard tracker.

I just found this. It reiterates the same thing but it goes into something that honestly we all know goes on. Didn't think we needed a similar thread but this mostly talks about the reviews.

    http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Xbo...sts-60492.html

The one thing that stood out to Polygon, however, was that the framerate was more consistent on the Xbox One, noting...
“The Xbox One release’s framerate was far more noticeable. As mentioned in the initial review, Call of Duty: Ghosts suffers from consistent framerate drops on the PS4, especially during multiplayer when action got especially hectic. The Xbox One version suffered no such drops, maintaining a steady 60 frames per second throughout.”
The Polygon review ties-in with what Destructoid writer Tim Sheehy had mentioned in his 10 minute preview session. This sentiment is also shared by Gamerevolution – who spends a great deal of the article seemingly trying to downplay the pixel-porn scrutiny that led to a huge fallout in the gaming community – writing...
“I also thought the experience ran a bit smoother on Xbox One when compared to the PlayStation 4 version, especially during the campaign. Perhaps going with 720p upscaled to 1080p allowed Infinity Ward to craft a slightly better performing game at the cost of a few pixels... I don't know. After all, I'm no tech expert; I can only speak to what I saw with the limited knowledge that I have. “
Despite admitting to not being a techie, the honesty of the writer, in a way, falls to the average gamer's perception of the new titles. Would the average gamer be able to tell? That's not really the point, though. The crux of the debate centered around whether or not gamers were getting shortchanged with a more expensive console outputting software at a lower quality.

As far as framerates go, it does appear that the Xbox One at least has managed to maintain a stable 60 frames per second throughout, based on the reviews so far.

But what about the rest of the game? The image quality? Resolution? Texture detail?Hardcoregamer feels that the Xbox One beats out the competition, noting...
“I haven’t had enough time with the PS4 version to declare this the definitive version, but at this point it’s my version of choice. While Ghosts is superb on the Xbox 360, future Xbox One owners would do themselves a great disservice for not investing (or upgrading to) this version."
Doesn't spend as much time with one version of the game but declares another version as the winner. Meme-worthy right there.

But what about the resolution? What about the textures? Are the colors washed out? What about the crushed black? What about the anisotropic filtering? What about per-pixel lighting? What about the details that define each version of the game?

Sadly, the only one who had the balls to call a spade a spade and honestly re-confirm a lot of what we expected was Videogamer. No apologies, no corporate butt licking, no brand brown-nosing... just a lot of hard-nosed facts.

Instead of glossing axioms for faux bias confirmation, Videogamer just lays it out there and I highly respect them for it. Check this section of their article out comparing different versions of the game...
“...texture quality can range from average to very poor, and geometry itself can look clipped and badly aliased, giving the game a jaggy, muddy look that does nothing to tell you that your 429 investment was a good one. In some cases, elements of the world look barely textured at all, as is the case when the battle cruiser is seen at the end of the 'Fort Santa Monica Beachhead' mission...”

“Multiplayer also looks demonstrably worse than in the PS4 version, with similar problems afflicting the look of the game. Mechanically it is identical, and at least the game ran stable enough to keep me blaming myself and not the frame rate for any kills I may have suffered.”
The devil's truth always looks better without the details.

Sadly, I expect few reviewers to honestly lay out the differences the way they should be laid bare.

Does the PS4 version suffer periodic frame stutter? Yes? Good, mention it.

Does the Xbox One version suffer lower texture grades and resolution? Yes? Good, mention it.

Is the PC version a steaming pile of crap? Yes? Good, mention it.

We're not reading reviews to find out if the game fits a fanboy agenda. Gamers are about to spend big bucks over the holiday season in the illustrious digital entertainment industry, and the one thing we don't need are reviewers pandering to an agenda, downplaying differences or avoiding to mention key details that may help someone make an informed purchase.

So basically all versions except X1 is suffering from framerate drops?
That should tell something about the game.

    EDIT: Even PC-version. Yeah...

Looks like 720p is probably why it is running smoother. Go figure lol.

I'd like to see them bump the X1 version to native 1080p (like the PS4 version) and see how well it performs. 10-20fps confirmed.

If the PS4 version was dropped to 720p, what would it run at? 100fps?

Doubtful. If it cant run smooth on PC with a Titan and 16GB RAM and intel Hex core then its not the PS4's lack of power that is causing the issue.

The issue for video gamer however is.

1/ They are the only ones who have ever said this.
2/ There is enough side by side comparisons to tell us this is not the case.
3/ Eyes don't lie, words can.

Cinema bland took basically the only article they could find, with no evidence what so ever and pushed their cause out there.
The game is always going to take a visual hit 720/1080 side by side, but there is no evidence on any of the numerous videos Ive watched that this is anything but piss poor journalism by Video gamer.

The comparison Video heavily favored the PS4 version, with the XBO version seeming softer.
I didn't notice a framerate dip in their videos, they should have tried to express that point too visually.

Thats always going to happen in up scaling though, missing textures is something Ive looked for but simply cannot find.

Not that I am too concerned either way, the boys 360 version of the game is waiting in the cupboard for either his final exam mark to be a pass, or Xmas. Hell yes I'll use bribery to get my son through education.

Indeed, their exams where last week , started on Tuesday, the same day as COD game out (of course!), half of his class played the game all week, while we used it as incentive, same kids failed exams...so far he just failed science (46%), waiting on English however, I told em he had to pass 3 out the four core subject, meanwhile he got a blimmin merit in graphic design of all things (this is the most moaned about subject in our house - go figure).

But yeah, moral of the story is don't give your kids access to a new game and their gaming console on the week of their exams.

I tried that on my PS4 and it was to no avail. There are still frame drops in multiplayer especially on the huge castle map or when the are a lot of explosions/multi-flash bangs going off...
