LOLz. I said the fail rate was at 0.50% and it turns out, I was off by a mere one tenth percentage point. These are $#@!ing spectacular fail rates. Even most other hardware companies can't match these numbers.

If you trust the Amazon reviews to be accurate, this is almost a 50% failure rate - most of them are DOA. What kind of piece of $#@! assembly line did Sony hire?

These reviews are more than suspect. I find it hard that as many people on here that have a console not one has mentioned a bricked console. At least not that I have seen. Not to mention there is an excessive use of the term DOA. I guess we will know how much of this is legit but honestly I'm sure most of it is fanboys.

This $#@! happens all the time. Just go look at Best Buy's reviews and look at the 1 star reviews. You will see exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not saying there aren't people that are having issues with it but I have a very strong feeling these reviews would read much different if those stories about the gaming media outlets having problems with hdmi never hit big news.

Guaranteed this $#@! will start happening next week when X1 releases as well. Chalking most of this up as fanboys being fanboys.

Golden rule for me is to wait out for better batch, and I prefer to wait from 6 months to a year.

i read on another forum that either people are saying they have a broke ps4 and dont even have a ps4.
or amazon had a bad batch.

My son and I put in a solid 8 hours of gaming, day one patch, app downloads and knock on wood, the ps4 is humming like a bird! And yes, it's from Amazon! Like I think the poster above me mentioned, how many of these reviews are people who don't have them? And I'd hardly call a slowdown in the psn newsworthy.

No issues with my PS4....working like a champ....some server issues with BF but nothing I see on Sony's side....I'm sure there are problems with some...like any electronic...but I'm not experiencing it and it doesn't seem much more than some issues with downloads etc...not hardware.

And mine is amazon...my two brothers also got day 1 from amazon and they've had no issues too....we've been party chatting all night.

My PS4 has been going since about 1pm Friday, with maybe a 2 hour break between then and now, and mine is still kicking. Played a ton of BF4, downloaded updates, Netflix, Vudu, and China Rising, and other than PSN being a turd all has been fine *knock on wood*. I'm using my SONY brand HDMI cable that is gold plated and not the cheapo one that came packed in if that makes a difference.

If you go over to the GAF, you'll see it looks like the PS4 apocalypse. A lot of reports saying that Amazon had bad batches, or September made console from Yunfujin China are bad, but that's exactly what I've got. Who knows? I just hope this isn't a wide spread issue.

Doesn't Amazon check to see if these people actually bought the product? But yeah 130 odd people out of how many who ordered it from there probably is minuscule, and yea it will happen next week guaranteed.

reading the reviews themselves they look pretty genuine to me for the most part. Very concerning. (especially as I've ordered mine from Amazon UK - hope it's not a WW issue)

Looking through a few of those 1 star amazon reviews are not verified purchasers, and clearly trolls. Like this little nugget:
    1.0 out of 5 stars ps4 is garbage, November 15, 2013
    By
Yanks - See all my reviews

This review is from: PlayStation 4: Launch Edition (Video Game)
Im so glad I cancelled my order cause I knew this was going to happen with the first day editions
In the first 5 pages there are 35 or so verified, assuming that keeps up through all 20 there are 140 verified purchasers. Do keep in mind that amazon no doubt sold tens (hundreds) of thousands of consoles. Not defending, just this doesnt look as big of an issue as so many folks are making it seem like.. or am I blind?

    EDIT:
Was curious and these are the others, not including ***** cause its probably filled with unverified fanboys lol:
6 **s are verified (3 have DOA, 2 complaining about lack of music streaming/DLNA, and 1 cause of a missing HDD screw)
4 ***s are verified (1 $#@!ing about the HDMI and lack of watch dogs, 1 was "not blown away by the console", 1 having HDD issues, 1 cause he MIGHT get a DOA o.O)
13 ****s are verified (usual pro/con stuff, complaining about missing features, and a few havent even got it yet..)

Why not add a poll and see how many people on the forum actually have issues with the PS4?

Well...it's 2:45AM here now....and my PS4 has been on playing games and idle while I eat and whatnot since about 4:30PM early today.

    And I've had no problems.

So...sucks that others have problems...but I'm happy. End of discussion for me. In the event it breaks in the next couple of months then I'll hate it then.

No doubt that some of these people have problems. But I'm sure this hdmi issue is something that can be fixed by firmware. Unless it is faulty hardware. But I would wait around a couple weeks until we start jumping to conclusions. Not to mention there is apparently a workaround fix for the hdmi.

I think there might be some faulty HDMIs since they dont all seem to have that metal flake, but I think everything else seems like it might be software/due to the PSN store not being stable. Downloading from the store is one thing I've yet to do, or log into the PSN. I'm seriously considering getting the PS Protection Plan for $49.99 just to be on the safe side. Even though I'm not all that worried just yet.

Though I'm confused, PS store says I got 30 days from time of purchase but the site says that only for the accidental plan.

I might get a square trade warranty. They are pretty cheap. Not to mention I'm pretty sure the cable that comes with mine doesn't work. Lol. I hooked it up to my ps3 and if didn't work at all. Then I hooked it up to my ps4 and it was just a black screen. Hooked up my good cable and was working fine. So hopefully those people tried a new cable. I'm sure most did.

Mine has been running beautifully all day.
Cant imagine getting a fail console.
After waiting for so long and finally getting it only for it to be a brick.
I feel so bad for them. At least they will all get replacements.

A lot of the same parts are coming from the exact same facility as the XBox One. Next question.
    -----------------------------------------
OT: had one instance of the HDMI not being detected from my receiver or my TV directly after a wakeup from Standby. I did a safe-mode restart and haven't had any problems since.

I think that a lot of the issues people are having stems from how the HDMI is interfacing to TVs and receivers. My guess is that they will be able to address this along with HDCP lockdown in pretty short order. PS4 is stacking up well. Even with the blatant trolling going around various websites, failure rate is holding below one percent for anything verified.

There are a lot of people like Typical Guy who are beating the console war drum right now. It's best to stay objective. If someone isn't posting pics or video, they could honestly be Bullshitting. It's 2013 and it's not hard to host images and video. Most people can do it from their phone. I've had four friends on my PSN list ask me if I'm worried about my PS4 crapping out. I've been playing too much to pay attention to everything going on, but I can tell you that things are going great for all the PS4 playing friends on my friend list as well as everyone I talk to on Facebook.

One of the issues reported with the HDMI has a really easy fix according to IGN:

    http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/11/1...-metal-in-port

Also the "red line of death" is not as bad as it first seems either:

    Few rules to follow.

    1) Don't keep in a inclosed space, give it room (The reportedly "red line of death" is hardly death, its telling your systems getting to hot and is closing it down before it does get to hot)

    2) If cables don't go in easy, don't try and force them in, take a look at port and cable and see what might be making it hard going in.

    3) Don't count reviews on sites as a way to give a fail rate %, you know most people that got system from say amazon will not even review said system, mostly only them that have a problem will review, or a small % that find it good will review.

    4) Will be loads of FUD going around, mostly from little blog sites trying to gain hits on there site by posting 'hot' subjects, keep to respected sites to see whats going on, after all if you read some them small blogs that wobble would mean the death of the ps4 and sony......

    5) Enjoy the system.
