    TIs a new PC graphics API which creates a more efficient path to to the graphics hardware thus improving performance.
    Currently only AMD card can take advantage of it HD 7000 series and the R6 R7 R9 series.

    DirectX has many uses, Mantle has one.

    It'll be a while before it can compete proper. MS isn't their only competitor. There is also Nvidia. As this doesn't work with their cards, consider the market share for Mantle to be very niche, and subsequently not very attractive to the wider market.

    But from a PC gaming point of view; It is very impressive to be reaching a level of optimization closer to consoles. The comparison to DX 11.1 should be very interesting!

    No I'm not - I don't particularly pay attention to the itty bitty tech of these machines. I've heard of buzzwords such as "hUMA" etc. But they are meaningless to me (not that they are meaningless, it's just that apart from the engineers having to sue the, , what does it matter to me as the end consumer)?

    Same here man. I'm always lost in these tech conversations. I had no idea what mantle was either.

    Well, anything MANTLE enabled on PC could be a boon for APU based systems.
    I'm looking at this Steamroller quad core with 512 to 823 shader/vectors (8-13 CUs).
    That could be a wonderful base for my media server and it's performance on some games could be acceptable with MANTLE.

    I wish there were a viable Amiga company around now, some custom APU for an Amiga would be sweet, something me and some of the people on an Amiga FB page were banging out one night.

    Give us a start with an APU but high speed buses (hypertransport) to 2 to 3 other sockets, where we can add in other units and start us out with a 4GB GDDR5 cache on the mobo and expand the rest with DDR3/DDR4 in the future. Use HT for the memory coherency among asynchronous SMP processors!

    Sadly, not gonna happen, but we could dream.

    It's an interesting model to be perusing. Mantel is cool technology and have some real benefits in the short term, that said it is more good in an ideological sense than a practical one. Build software in this style only benefits AMD based platforms, DX/OpenGL code is viable on AMD and everything else.
