    Solid experience so far!

    Picked up at 10:15 am

Trouble shooting the patch and account transfer for 15 min.

Redeemed BF4 digital voucher and $10 PSN credit flawlessly

Download digital upgrade for BF4 Flawlessly

    Played some Campaign

Holy Santa Clause $#@!, it plays smooth and looks incredible on my 50" 1080p Plasma.

Connected my Astro Mixamp while the console is running and works perfectly.

Started a voice chat with my buddy and tested the latency compared to our cell phones. It was spot on and clear as a bell.

The console kicks out heat comparable to the super slim PS3 that I have. Big whoop!

That's all I know so far.

It's quiet when your not playing. When your playing the fan gets pretty loud.

agreed...setup was a breeze....took a little while to get PSN and PS+ all squared away....UI and flow between menus and games and back to UI is super fluid....PSN Store on PS4 is really how PS3 store should have been

My Astro A40's with mixamp work awesome....quick simple setup in the sound settings menu (be sure to choose 'All Sound' for headphone audio if you want chat and audio for your headphones) accidentally had it set to chat only and surprised the crap out of
myself when Killzone's music came out of my speakers at 55db!!

I had a scare today when I hooked up my ps4.. I used the same HDMI cord that I had with the ps3 and plugged it into the ps4 and it didn't work. Decided to just use the hdmi that came with the ps4 and started to work. I did had problems downloading the patch though. Finally got that done.

Played AC IV for about an hour while DL'ng games in the background. Fan is very quiet. Quieter than my Slim. Also the HDD is very quiet, not noticing any seek/access noise like I do on the 500GB HDD I had put in my PS3. That's very good.

What kind of problems? Mines on but I'm hesitant to download the patch, my USB drive isn't big enough.

So far I have enjoyed mine, however the power cable is a little short. My HDMI caused my monitor to lock up a few times and I had to unplug it. I have a HDMI switch with my PS3, PS4 and XBOX 360 plugged in. For some reason I had to unplug my PS3 from the switch before it worked the first time. Now they all works, so who knows.

The PS3 I have a 500GB Seagate Momentus 5400RPM drive from 7/2010 timeframe. It makes a decent amount of seek noise when it's doing accesses, but not to bad. Actually about as bad as the 80GB original drive that it replaced in my Phat. I moved the 500GB to my PS3 160GB slim I bought in 2012.

I still have the stock drive in the PS4. The access is quick and quiet. I was considering buying a SSHD for faster speed + quiet (fewer actual drive seeks) but I've decided to hold off on this as 9.5mm 2TB drives are supposed to arrive 1Q14, and I suspect they'll have SSHD's that follow, and I'll wait until then to upgrade.

EDIT: Just so you know, the PS4 is extremely responsive with the default drive. Both game installs and launch times are extremely fast.

Yeah, and I was a bit disappointed that when I attempted to Sign In and it told me I must update, and I accepted, that it didn't give me the option of doing it via USB flash drive right there from that menu.

I'm pretty sure you can do it via safe mode, but at the time it was indicating only about 5min DL, so I let it download the patch.

Hm, anyone else hooked up via optical? Is HDMI still playing audio for you?

EDIT: That was painless. I put my internet cable in, and I hovered over the System Update option all worried like.. then it told me the 1.5 update has been downloaded. Within two minutes it was done installing.. worrying for an hour over nothing.

Good on you mate! Hope all you launch buyers get rock solid consoles.
Digital Foundry's measurements said that it'd be about 40-50 dB for within a metre, though their close measurement was right at the fan exhaust, so I'm guessing, realistically we'd probably only be at about 45-6 dB max noise. Dunno if that's good or not, and honestly couldn't give a rat's ass about it either because I always play with headphones on.
Well, Happy gaming to all y'all!

I put in a new hdd straight away and the instructions for doing the update weren't correct so it took me a while to figure that out but once I did smooth sailing from there.

There is a different 800+ MB file of firmware 1.50 that you need when you install a new hdd and you need to use option 7 from safe mode.

I only got to play about 30 minutes worth this morning....but the one thing that stood out was the controller.

    Wow...I love the new dualshock.

That's a good idea actually. Think I'll pop an ethernet cable in to get everything sorted at the beginning.
