    Standby or Completely off?

I'm curious as to which is the recommended method.

Standby. It will download updates to games and FW while in this mode plus its a lot faster boot.

Just turn it off if u ever want to unplug it.

I was weary about leaving it on in standby but mine has been in standby all day. Figured if it tanks Sony will replace it.

My ps vita has been in standby mode for over a year. Its such a low power state I don't even think it requires the fan.

Stand by should not cause any issues directly, it's power use will be minimal and don't shorten the lifetime of the machine one bit.

You might have to occasionally reset the system fully simply due to the base OS running for longer periods of time but this is an issue that affects all complex operating systems.

Yes. The light on top of the console will glow orange when it is in standby. The controller will charge then.

Unless you want to download updates with the auto-update feature, or have some other need for the standby features, I would recommend shutting it down completely just to be on the safe side (like if there was a power outage, or something else happened that could cause the PS4 to lose power, which may screw it up, especially if it's downloading/installing an update).

Even with my own PC I do everything manually (except for AV updates, those are Ok to auto after I manually adjust when the updates occur). Never was fond of things updating themselves without me knowing exactly what is going on.

Better yet, keep it on when you feel safe having it turned on. (I keep my pc CPU on 365 days a year) And turn it off for vacations.

Everything I own is in standby if it isn't being used. PS4 added to that collection lol.

I would say yes, it is safer. That's just an assumption, guess, and grain of salt all rolled into one.

Less stress on the system components when having to cold boot.

ok so that in itself is worth keeping it on standby 23/7? honest question

If you're only turning it on once per week, and playing one hour per week, then no. However, if you are doing it a few times a day to several times a week, I would suggest standby.

Turning it on revs up all the moving parts inside, surge of electricity, and a difference in cold boot to operating temperatures.

Rest assured. The OS in the PS4 is based off of a tried and true server OS. Putting it in standby will not be a problem whatsoever.
Who would have thought building a solid product that serves your customer's needs would beat out money, marketing, hype, and greed.

Standby, I want it to download the games, updates, OS and have minimal effective downtime because of these.

It's only a couple components pulling low power and I have zero fear of it shortening the PS4's life.

As for loosing power, are you serious? If you're not using a UPS on your equipment, you're an idiot and I'd be more worried about using it at all w/o a UPS than leaving it in standby w/o a UPS.
