Broken PS4? Sony offers immediate exchange with expedited shipping

    http://www.psu.com/a021719/Broken-PS...dited-shipping

Sony is offering expedited shipping for broken PlayStation 4 consoles, including those with the blinking blue light and black screen. While Sony estimates the launch hardware fail rate to be 0.4 percent, bringing a brand-new console home to discover it doesn't work is a trying ordeal. With some scattered reports of positive dealings with PlayStation customer support, it's nice to hear confirmation of action from the source itself. SCEA told Game Informer, “SCEA is exchanging units with new replacements for those who call our support line. The exchanges are immediate with expedited shipping.”
If you are experiencing issues with your PS4 system, you can contact PlayStation support through its official website, read our guide to PS4 error codes and how to fix them, and find out what the blinking red light means.
How has your PS4 experience been so far?
Good to hear that this is not widespread.

yeah....hopefully SCE Europe will do the same. Small number of defects, but it is good if they get on top of it quickly.

I think it's more like they allocated a reasonable amount of stock for North American DOA consoles and their fail rate came in under target. I'd expect the EU replacement allocation will be a discrete number based on EU preorders and expected sales, so in the unlikely event you do have a problem, you'll get the same treatment.

Yeah that's what I'd assume would happen. We no longer have Concorde, there's no way you could run an expedited shipping service to the US from Europe in the timescale they're talking about!

I got an iPod from Apple once, overnight. From China. So you never know, but I suspect, yeah, the replacement units will be at one centralized EU support location, or a few strategically placed outbound shipping sites.

Good job Sony. You're doing the right thing. Sucks for anyone that got a bricked PS4 right out of the box.

Read the comments, just for laughs. http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/19/tech/g...ues/index.html

People are freaking out over 4,000 DOA and quick fail consoles out of a million. This is less relevant now that there is a vaccine widely available, but back in the day, when people were expressing anxiety over the number of deaths in 100,000 cases of a mostly mild or moderate illness that made the papers and evening news programs for whatever reasons, we'd tell them, Well, even chickenpox has a mortality rate.

I wouldn't call 0.4% a "problem", but yeah they are really going beyond what most companies would do this early into the launch.

I'm glad mine works just fine, but I'm also happy to hear Sony is addressing this matter the best way possible. Kudos Sony!

Amazon and SONY have teamed up to give Amazon customers replacement units as well. Pretty awesome SONY is stepping up to the plate on this.
