I just can't have fun with sports games online.....

Haven't really tried FIFA online, but I've played 2 games of MADDEN online and.....ugh.

I was beating a guy 10-0 and I threw and interception. He went from the 40yd line to the 2yd line. On the 2....it went to 3rd down and on that down he quickly went no huddle. I pressed the Options button so that I could call a timeout b/c I wanted to make sure I at least picked a play I wanted to stop him.

Instead, it said something about how many pauses each of us had....he ran the play which was the exact opposite of the play that was auto there....and from then on it seemed to go downhill.

Also...all of a sudden it seemed like this guy knew everything there was to know about football. Which guy would be open...what play to call.

At the beginning he was kicking off regularly like a normal match. And even though I was pissed b/c of the Option thing and I stayed in hopes he would have some respect for me and maybe we could play again since I didn't rage quit.

Then, all of a sudden, he knew about doing onsides kicks and going for 2 and how that is a lot easier to do in game than in real life. It was as if he was a different person or like a big brother took over the controls and instead of being happy that I didn't quit he was being a $#@! with onsides kicks and going for 2.

I mean...he was going for 2 with like 3 minutes left in the game and he was up by 2 touchdowns. There was no reason.

I dunno...maybe I'm just crazy for wanting to play a normal game of football with someone who isn't going to play like that.

In the end...since he was disrespecting me...I just walked away from the game and went to go smoke. I came back to a "you have been kicked for excessive stalling" or something. But whatever.

you will play people like that bro. I've played a bunch of madden online and the first quarter is always feeling the other player out. see what plays he calls what defenses he runs if he knows how to press corners etc etc. you do have $#@!heads that onside and go for two at every chance, but then again there's people like me who play it like a real game and only do it when it's appropriate. so all in all, it's a game take the good with the bad.

This, effectively. You'll play against cheaters, exploiters, assholes, cautious players, gung-ho players, great players, astute players, friendly players, fair players - it's just the nature of the beast. Each sports game has a set of systems or routines that can be capitalized on. It's not necessarily fair, and it can be monumentally frustrating and unsporting but it's just the way it is. There's always diamonds in the rough and you'll play some fantastic games if you stick with it. In the case of the other type of games you'll encounter you can just outplay or fight fire with fire.

Honestly, I don't see what he did wrong. From what I understand, he went from playing normally/conservatively to more aggressively - as in, they adapted.

To me, as long as they're not cheesing the same exact play, ever single play, then it's just (virtual) football and momentum/play-calling can shift. *shrug*

Good people who play fair online are hard to come by. Especially when it comes to sports games. So many people don't care about having fun and only care about winning and doing anything to win at any cost. I've been playing NBA 2k games online since the original on Dreamcast. I've ran into a lot of bad apples but the good times out weigh the bad times.

Why would you play conservative when you're down by 10 points....and play aggresive when you're up by 17?

Specifically....why would you go for 2 and onside kick when you are up by 17 points.

anyways I think I missed the title of his thread, he can't have FUN. well, even the games that were the most fun to you had their quirks no?
in regards to online sports games, the way people play has been discussed enough. bottom line is it's a competition. you're going to love it when you kick somebody's ass or win a close game, and you're gonna hate it when you get your ass kicked or lose a close game. it's the natur of competition. if you don't enjoy all aspects of competition, then never play another second of multiplayer. period.

Well what's wrong with those when you're down?

I wouldn't do it myself in a normal scenario.

Sorry, I guess I misread it it. I don't know the guy/person so who knows, maybe he woke up[, whatever. All I'm saying is, being aggressive is not necessarily a bad thing.

But like you said, if he's up then he's just Jim Harbaugh-ing it up.

I see the point you're trying to make but if you have ever played any sport in your life then you may know the value of sportsmanship. if not then I guess going for 2 pts constantly isn't an issue for you.

No I bget all that (and for the record, I have played sport and without touting my own bell, am a very good sport). I just mean, this is the virtual arena, in a world of COD players etc etc, and Madden cheesers. And considering all that, someone going for a 2 point conversion is hardly the least of any online gamers worry.

Again, not necessarily defending the actions per se, but it certain;y doesn't sound "horrible". Though I can see why it's "not fun". "_

In saying all that - this is why I DON'T PLAY ONLINE (HARDLY)!!!!
