PlayStation 4 CPU using AMD Turbo Core to go from 1.6GHz up to 2.75Ghz ?

there seems to be a lot of speculation regarding the PS4 CPU. Now there are rumors that the CPU has a flexible frequency based on the amount of cores used. I guess the best way to say it is if devs choose to use less cores they can increase the CPU clock rate. Just read the link.

    http://gamenmotion.blogspot.com/2013...o-core-to.html

For awhile there has been speculations about the 2.75GHz clock rate that showed up in the PS4 FCC Certification. Some speculated that it was just the clock rate of the Memory but today in a IGN PS4 review video the 2.75GHz clock rate has been shown to be the highest clock rate of the CPU with 1.6GHz being the base clock rate.

If you're wondering what's this all about I'll like to point you to AMD Turbo Core technology which push the clock rate up while using less cores to get the best performance out of the CPU when there is tasks that are better suited for higher clock rates but less cores.

I forgot to mention, this maybe the reason why they haven't given us an official number, because the frequency is a range based on how the devs use it.

    Wait... wait... wait...

    Their source is IGN?

you all know I love me some crazy speculation... But please... IGN?

Nah... Let's not do this to ourselves... This is plain ridiculous.

No, this is the FCC classification for the speed of the GDDR5 RAM.
It transmits twice per clock at 2.75ghz.
The system does not have 5.0ghz 802.11a or 5ghz N wireless build in, only 2.4ghz, so, the highest clock frequency of the system for FCC classification is the GDDR5 RAM clock.

You know this is regarding the CPU and not the RAM or the wifi card?

Really doubt that they will let CPU to clock over 1.6Ghz, what we should see is under clocking to save power.

If the clock rate is ranged based on the amount of cores used. It might not make a difference on heating. I think this method is used to keep a balance.

Actually a pretty standard feature today for CPU's

I know, I was just joking! Back in the day when you were still in diapers, they had turbo buttons on computers, but all they did was cut the clockspeed in half if you didn't have it turned on!

Or just get a compact liquid cooling solution. I got one for $70~ (give or take 20, it's been 2 1/2 years) and even overclocked to 3.8 my cpu never reaches 70c even at max load, whether gaming or stress testing.

And I know where that speculation on 2.75ghz comes from; The FCC classification that the highest clock frequency of the unit is 2.75ghz and I just showed you where it comes from... so give it up already!

If this is the case, then why are the PlanetSide 2 devs taking so much time optimizing the PS4 version for multi-threading? Couldn't they just use less cores at a higher speed, like they currently have it set up?

It would be amazing if it's true, and although it would be high power consuming and would generate a lot of heat doesn't mean it's not likely, heck even my phone is clocked at 2.2 ghz stock.
