    PS4 Wobble

Don't see anybody else reporting on this. Yes, there is a slight wobble in the corners if you push down on them. The reason is kind of a mind blower. Yes, it is a reason, not some defect. At first when I looked at the reason, it was "OH $#@!!!! There is a gasket protruding from the underside. What kind of manufacturing...". Then I looked closer and saw they are two flat rubber feet on each side underneath if horizontal. So then, it was a wonder if they left corner pads off somehow. The thing is, the PS4 sits pretty firmly horizontal if nothing is putting pressure in the corners. It really sits solid. Then, finally, I realized and had a Wow Sony moment. Those footpads are there to always ensure a slight air gap exists beneath the console when it is horizontal but not ruining aesthetics with pads on the side if set up vertically. It was deliberately designed that way.

It was talked about in another thread. Basically came down to who gives a $#@!? Nobody should be touching the console anyways.

The topic of the wobble as a controversial discussioni topic is made moot. The point is that the little feet are specifically there to provide a guaranteed cooling air gap underneath the console when horizontal while not disrupting the aesthetics of it being vertical. You know who gives a $#@!? Sony, thank goodness. It is a carefully thought out design.

They really do have some of the most asthetically pleasing devices out there. I've always loved their tv designs and laptops and their consoles have always been cool too. We see the difference in a HARDWARE company and that of a software company like MS. I may sound like a fanboy but to me xbox consoles have always just looked like giant vcrs or cable boxes and don't get me started on the fact they have external power sources and have had more issues with faulty designs. I know Sony isn't perfect but when they launch a BIG device...they do a great job.

it only wobbles if you force it to do that. I have a lot of bass going on with my surround sound and it doesn't even rattle. There isn't a problem unless you actually push it in order to get a wobble in the first place.

Mine hasn't wobbled once since I hooked it up last Friday. But then again, I've been PLAYING it and not pushing on the corner of it.

Sadly, I don't think anyone has read the OP's post it seems.

He wasn't complaining about the wobble. He was trying to explain how the wobble led him to discover a design element of the PS4. Which would have been apparent, had the post actually been read.

    Good job on that, guys.

I doubt cooling was the reason for the wobble or gap underneath. The foam strip under the PS4 is for grip, which helps a lot when inserting a USB cable which keeps it from pushing back. On my PS3 I had to hold the console to keep it from moving when attaching a USB cable, but with the PS4 I can do it one-handed and the PS4 stays put.

Other than grip and making the PS4 have soft touch points when setting it down, cooling is the last possible reason for any gap down there. As for one, there is no vents on the bottom, and 2, plastic is a terrible heat-conductor, so cooling the bottom side of the plastic is pointless. If the console shell was made out of copper or aluminum and was bind to the heatsink, then perhaps that would be a reason. But for plastic? Nope.

I just tried pushing on all 4 corners of my PS4, and didn't get any wobble whatsoever. Maybe it's how I have it arranged that keeps it from rocking, I dunno. I do remember it wobbling at some point when I first got it if I was pressing down on certain corners, but cannot replicate it now. It's solid as a rock.

So after all that there is a logical aesthetical reason for the feet placement.
