    Gaikai and The Cloud

    This is not a thread to ruffle feathers or kick up a storm, I just have a simple question. Xbox have yet again talked about The Cloud making the Xbox One the most powerful console ever.

    The PS4 isnít more powerful. There is some confusion about the difference in the number of pixels, but the resolution of some games is defined by the publisher, not by the console. Especially thanks to the power of the cloud - we installed 300,000 servers Ė the capabilities of the console are multiplied by four. So if you connect the console to the Internet, then the Xbox One is the most powerful.

    I simply want to know if Gaikai is capable of this? I know Gaikai is aimed at streaming content but if it is capable of doing the same thing Microsoft seem to love talking about, well why are Microsoft so proud of their service?

    Sony said they could do that as well a couple of months back. I don't think there will be a improvements. Too many systems downloading from the server to improve graphics on dsl and internet connections.

    It is asinine to assume streaming graphics is better then hardware. Sounds like snake oil to me

    Even with a 50MB/s download pipe over direct fiber... the connection is still slower than the XBO's DDR3 bus so it cant' improve anything even under angelic circumstances which won't exist.
    The screen is entirely the responsibility of the local console.
    The cloud will be used for calculating big data which could be gathered by game servers about players and their interactions with the environment and report that back to the system to synthesize into their local view of such online titles... .LIKE ALL OTHER ONLINE GAMES.

    The Cloud is the latest buzzword, and it too shall pass.

    When Dave Perry reveals what Gaikai is up to, i'm sure we'll all be amazed, Perry is a genius.

    WTF! Yeah, and like the publisher choose to make XBO game 720p while making PS4 games 1080p.
    They did it because they had to, to reach 60fps.
    While the PS4 has enough headroom to do 1080p and 60fps.
    That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, lol!

    Ugh, the secret wizard of the cloud $#@! is back? It devs learn how to use the cloud to aid games reaching 1080p/30-60FPS on XB1 then more power to them but it simply isn't practical and even if it were, it's dependent on a net connection. Sony doesn't need their cloud to $#@! from the heavens, it has the power in the box and can use the tech for other purposes, like evntually streaming the entire PlayStation catalog to the worlds most powerful home console or handheld device.

    Also,LOL @ the MS reps comment. It's a little sad.

    Having computing resources behind network doesn't increase power of console.

    All consoles/computers/mobile devices can send information to the mythical cloud with rainbows and use it for storage or calculation.
    My bloody C=64 might have been able to do it. (after some tweaking to get network working..) (RIP)

    As far as we know right now, gaikai isn't capable of doing what ms cloud does in terms of scaling and compute. According to sony, Gakai is only going to be used as a streaming service. Sony has recently admitted that they don't really understand how MS is using their cloud. I don't know about the power stuff but MS says offloading CPU processes to the cloud can allow things like advanced AI and improved visual fidelity. Forza 5 supposedly uses the cloud for this.

    DICE decided 900p on PS4, 720p on Xbone (even though MS pays them for early DLC access) for BF4.
    Ubisoft decided 1080p on PS4, 900p on Xbone for Assassins Creed.
    Dead Rising 3 - 720p, an exclusive is not even hitting 1080p

    If the cloud offers "4 times the capabilities" then why is no one utilising it and why isn't what the PR saying being proven? Because it's flat out lies. Hugues Ouvrard has come out with some crap before but this just takes the biscuit, he's doing more damage than good for MS.

    The almighty cloud, even in it's nicest description is nothing but a bunch of servers that deliver content. It's a BS statment used to confuse people who aren't tech savvy enough to know better.

    I'm sure devs could hit 1080p if that was their main goal. Its not like there are no 1080p games for xbox-one. Ryse actually was 1080p according to the crytek devs.

    Games are using it. Forza, Titan fall, Kinect sport rivals and sunset overdrive just to name a few. There are even some cloud based games coming. As far as i know it's still a choice and not mandatory.

    When did this happen? A source would be good.
    I read it in a article not long ago. I will post it after i find it.

    lol...gaf. That explains it. It all depends on what review you read i guess. Ive read the AI can be overly aggressive at times but that sure isn't debunking it as nonsense or not true about it using the cloud.

    That same flair for personality can be seen in the new drivatar AI system. The idea is that each car you compete against throughout your career is modeled after a real player's driving habits, a sort of cloud-based doppelganger meant to reflect how aggressive a person is in the pack or how well they can negotiate the trickiest of chicanes. Exactly how accurate these portraits are is up for debate, but the system does succeed in filling each 16-car grid with distinct personalities, drivers whose tendencies you can never take for granted. Their mistakes are far less predictable than the vanilla AI of previous games--especially when you reduce their penchant for aggression by climbing the ladder of eight difficulty settings--making those moments you capitalize on their errors that much more rewarding. There are odd AI hiccups here and there, like when they side-swipe you in the straights for no apparent reason, but such goofs are rare and nothing that a quick tap of the rewind button can't solve.

    Sounds to me like it works like turn 10 said for this reviewer. But like I said before, it depends on the review and no one said it would work flawlessly. It's just one mode of the game.

    It shouldn't have been downgraded if the system received an upgrade between e3 and launch. Guess the upgrade wasn't big enough to hold those e3 textures in the final build
