I'd judge speed by the real time downloading... estimates are just that.

I use the speedtest that F34R provided. Works great.

ok, just went to store and downloaded blacklight retribution, its 20 hrs left to go, really slow. 446mb update for it which normally takes me 3-4mins is taking 75mins. Not sure what is going on, whether its just a fault somewhere in my setup or a more widespread problem. It was fine up until today speedof.me was reporting 17mbs or so, i get around 21mb on laptop.

    I downloaded bf4 2 nights ago.

It was 6.2gb for the initial install. I left the house and came back 5 hours later at midnight and it had only downloaded 2.7gb.

After midnight the mb counter started flying and it downloaded the rest of the game in just over 1 hour.

you've got me. I never ran a cat5 cable, tested and then retested with the Cat6 I figure the cat6 is probably over kill but you never know.
Both with support 1Gbps ethernet. You're Internet speed isn't going to be coming close to this for years to come. You'll observe no difference between using a cat5 vs cat6 wire over the internet, or even on for 1Gbps transfers between two PCs on the local network.

The difference is really the electrical spec's which would allow Cat6 to operate at higher frequencies than what you're current 1000BASE-T (1Gbps Ethernet) is operating at. While Cat6's can support 10G-BASE-T, which isn't consumer grade today, but will get there sometime in the next decade (and who knows when we'll see broadband speeds for residential usage at those speeds.)

If I were to pull wire's today, I'd pull cat6 for future proofing, but today it doesn't buy you anything.

Ive figured out why my ps4 internet speed is messed up but dont know how to fix it. I get internet through home plugs in my room. At first I thought home plugs were faulty, Ive since discovered its the new christmas tree lights that when it is switched on it affects my internet speed and when off its back to 22mbs. Home plugs use the electrical wiring in your house to put the internet through it instead of a ethernet cable. I get 22mb on the homeplugs while the christmas tree is off. Anyone know what I could do to cure this weird problem? I go down to 4mb when the lights are switched on. Very strange.

Could also be network congestion on PSN or your internet provider.

Narrowed down further that the problem is with the extension lead that the christmas tree lights are connected to. It is just a basic cheap one with no surge protection. Going buy a surge protection one 2moro and try that. On ps4 now with christmas tree lights turned off the speedtest is 16.7mb.

I don't understand how a surge protected will help?

Maybe u can use an extension cord to plug your tree into a different circuit.

Im thinking the surge protector will stop the interference because when I plug the lights in direct to the mains plug without the extension lead theres no downgrade in internet speed.

Anything worth a try or else ill just have to use wireless until the tree comes down in new year.

That's interesting. I would think they would draw the same amount regardless. I don't know though.

I would definitely go with wireless until the tree comes down.

Surge protector did the job, cuts out most of the interference, getting 15-17mb on ps4 now with lights on tree on, 20mb using homeplug on laptop, 22mb wireless on laptop. I wish theyd improve the wireless cards on playstations, i only get 9mb wireless on both ps3 and ps4 at any time, i get a constant 22mb on laptop wireless. Thats why I got the homeplugs in the first place.
