That's one hell of a lot faster, can not wait to hear the MS spin on this to make it sound like the Xbone install is better :/

The PS4 time is how long it takes before it lets you play the game. The Xbox One time look like complete installs.

I call bullshit on this. It took longer than 42 seconds for FIFA14 to install on the PS4. I'll back up all my data, and then delete all FIFA14 data and do it again. Same for Madden 25. It MIGHT be just the amount of time it takes till you can play the game.

Installing Xbox One Games Takes Way Too Long

We wanted to test the install times of both we plugged a PS4 into an Xbox One's TV input and watched them race to install a game. You can see in our video, there's a big difference in the two systems.

Both the Xbox One and PS4 require all games to be installed from the disc, due to the increasing size of games and the relatively low speed of optical drives. So both consoles have a feature that allows you to launch a game as soon as enough content is installed to begin running it, while the rest of the data continues to install in the background. Our test was how long it takes to launch the game from the time you insert a disc, with a normal console connected to the internet.

    RELATED

PS4 vs. Xbox One: The Comparison We Had To Make

We tested six multiplatform games on both consoles and every time, the PS4 was*under a minute*while the Xbox One install was several minutes long and required downloading an update before beginning the installation. When you include downloading those updates for each Xbox One game that happen in the background on PS4, the install times can get as high as fifteen minutes before you can even launch the game.

Remember that this is only a test of how long the games initially take to install. Once the games are fully installed, they take about the same amount of time to boot up on either console.

So here's the general idea: You put in a game to install it, a progress bar comes up, and at some point you can launch the game and start playing while it keeps installing.

On PS4, after inserting a disc, you'll be shown a progress bar that ends when you're able to launch the game, and if there's a day-one update, it downloads in the background, and you can install it when you want to play online or whatever the case may be for that update.

Eh - it seems to me that it should be "PS4 gets to a playable state faster" rather than "fully installs faster" - as it's currently alluding to.

Plus, PS4 owners have varying HDD speeds (those whom install a non-stock HDD), so may be faster or slower for others. Would like to see fully installed times on both.

Though, not taking away from the fact that PS4 allows you to get to a playable state faster. Not sure if XB1 does this? F34R?

So, there we go. It's going to take probably close to the same time to install the full game, download and install the updates, on both systems. Debunked thread title to say the least.

I only have Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5, and I didn't even take time to look whether or not you can play while it installs. I think you CAN, but not 100% sure from a personal perspective.

I'd agree and will change title as I get more info/confirmation. Right now, it's really misleading.

Just change it to "Xbox One and PS4 game installation info"

The content in the OP is just a bad representation of anything lol.

I mean, they are saying, 43 seconds for the PS4, and then the xbox one downloading and installing an update and installing the game...

    wow, what an amazing comparison.

Its like "Next day shipping is 100% faster than 2nd day shipping". lol

Moved to Vesus and thread title changed. Willing to change to something different as more info arises (eg times for play while install on XB1 or if the info includes full installs on the PS4 - which apparently it does not).

This is how long it takes for both to become playable. The Xbox One says including update because the game update must be downloaded before the installation begins, whereas the PS4 downloads the update in the background whilst it installs the game. Now you say thank you captain obvious.

The xb1 does the same thing but Sony's method is faster from the looks of things. Those dedicated background Chip being put to Good use

Just remember that the PS4 games will not update while you're playing them. It will simply download the update and it will be ready to install when you select it.

I'll take that trade off, it's still faster. The installation of the update is fast to.

I've got a 1TB 7200RPM waiting to go into my PS4 when I get it tonight so the installs should be even faster than those listed above XD

You can still select the update and go back to gaming rather than waiting

I have to call this in Sony's favour as time-to-first-play is more important than comparing install times from a consumability perspective. The PS4 will download in the background and even if it doesn't apply the patch that just means you stop briefly and restart, or apply it the next time you play.

I thought though that the One also supported that feature?

I think it does, it just isn't implemented as well since Sony has a dedicated chip for this sort of work where as MS appears to just be using existing resources.
