Xbox One vs PS4 load time compared

    http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/11/...-ps4-compared/

    These are some big differences!

Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 consoles require*you to install your new games, and there’s no getting around that wait, whichever next-gen machine you choose. Those plumping for the Xbox One, however, will seemingly spend a lot more time with the kettle on than their PlayStation counterparts.

A new video from Kotaku shows the comparison – with a PS4 and Xbox One racing to install cross-platform launch title Need For Speed Rivals. The results are astonishing.

The site tested six multiplatform games and every time the Xbox One took considerably longer than the PS4. In each case Sony’s machine required less than sixty seconds of pre-loading before gameplay began, whereas Microsoft’s needed several minutes, and included waiting for updates – all of which happened in the background on the PlayStation.

Obviously once the game’s content is fully installed future boot up times are much the same, regardless of console choice.

The full list of tested titles and their install times can be found below. For the purpose of this test both consoles were connected to WiFi with a moderate download speed of around 10Mbps.

    Assassin’s Creed IV:*
Xbox One (offline, no update): 5 minutes 50 seconds
Xbox One (with update): 10 minutes 32 seconds
    PS4: 42 seconds

    Need For Speed Rivals:*
    XB1: 09:25
    PS4: 00:32

    Just Dance 2014:
    XB1: 08:48
    PS4: 00:45

    NBA Live 14:*
    XB1: 16:26
    PS4: 00:35

    FIFA 14:
    XB1: 16:06
    PS4: 00:34

    Madden 25:
    XB1: 09:38
    PS4: 00:38

Quite a difference, and it doesn’t always end there. You’ll notice that Madden 25 took 9 minutes longer to launch on Xbox One than PlayStation – and even then parts of the game’s single player were unavailable, apparently still installing, despite everything being available almost instantly on PS4. A similar thing is reported to have happened with Assassin’s Creed 4. Crikey!

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but hasn't Sony been toying and implementing install-while-you-play set ups with the PS3 (Uncharted comes to mind)? It seems like they were perfecting a prototype system last gen to be used on the PS4..

So in that regard, it doesn't seem weird to me that all their stuff installs so much quicker. They've been practicing and gearing up for this, as it is apparently a focus with the PS4. Get all the performance benefits of installing on the hard drive with less of the waiting pain.

Sony beat MS in software!? Ouch, i imagine that will sting the MS engineers.

At first i assumed it was going to be some sort of bug report thread as they both have near identical CPU's, but those times! Look at Fifa!

Just to ease your pain. Those aren't "install" times per se. Read the other thread.

They may not be full install times but it's time to game which is what really matters anyway.

To my recollection they had separate installs for single and multi-player you could choose between. Took a damned long time to install anyway. PS4 is light years better

I think MS and their software line lately have been lacking including the release of windows 8. There is quite a few things different with Micrososft. I think it's safe to say that Microsoft has lost a bit of ground with their software appeal. Maybe it hasn't but to me it feels like it. The company has been changing and to me it doesn't look like a good change that is going to benefit the company, if any at all.
