    First Ever HDD Switch

So I've never switched an HDD on my consoles but I'm about to on my ps4. My brother who is a tech guru is going to assist me which is definitely a good thing. Would like to see if you guys had any tips tricks, do's and dont's, etc.
Btw, what I'm replacing the original with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822178340

It is the easiest of things to do. I'm not a tech guru and I switched the PS3 HDD out a few times with ease. You'll get through it easy man. As far as I'm aware its even easier on PS4 than it was on PS3.

What to do is go on YouTube and search it. I'm sure you'll find a video somewhere showing the whole process.

You all think it's a decent choice for an aftermarket drive?

Its a little more complicated than this. You do have to have the firmware on a flash drive and name the folders correctly. I think there is a sticky on how to do it. The hybrid drive you got should work well.

That is what I have in my ps4. I upgraded the hdd on day one. Plug in the new hdd and install the system software from a USB stick. Follow these instructions here : https://support.us.playstation.com/a...tail/a_id/5107

    Good hdd imo

You need a really small phillips head screwdriver. Once you've got a screwdriver that will fit, it's nice and easy.

    I used these. Including pictures.

    PS4>UPDATE>firmware here

Turn off console, press and hold power for 7 secs. Choose last option, install firmware.

My PS4 won't rekognise the 1.51 FW at all… it's the european FW so don't know if it got something to do with it. Tried several times and formatted the usb to FAT32 but still won't work. And yes the folder names are PS4 > UPDATE. Does anybody else have the same problem in europe?

Watch an instructional video and be careful.
Do that, and you will be fine, it is easier than you probably think.

The hardest thing is removing the face plate without damaging it.

What difference does it make apart from extra storage? I was thinking about it but I never really maxed out the 500gb on the ps3 so can you make things much quicker with a different hd?

Considering every game on the PS4 needs to be installed before use (which was one of the things I hated about the X1, so this kind of kills my excitement over it a bit) we'll need a 750+ sooner than we think

Also, check out IGN's HDD comparison

Had no problems with the ps3 switch but I go to download the PS4 firmware from Sony's site and all I get when I click on it is a white page full of jibberish...and no download...I take it that isn't suppose to happen? Is there another site I can download the firmware?

You're not supposed to download it from anywhere other than the official site. I guess to stop you from getting a dodgy upload.

Yea things can be made much quicker. Both cold boot and stand by start up times are decreased and loading a game will be quicker as well. A 500gb HDD will not be enough this gen so upgrading will be pretty much mandatory.

I figured....just sucks that their "official" site's link doesn't even work.

I need to upgrade my drive. With the size of the game installs the space is going away too quickly!

thanks for this guide, I struggled on a 500gb Slim so I know I will need to upgrade this asap. Will probably wait for Samsung M9T 2TB then I won't have to worry again. I have just read that 12.5mm drives DO fit in.
