Titanfall playable @ 4k with single Titan

    http://www.dsogaming.com/news/titanf...dia-gtx-titan/
Nvidia has released a new video in which its engineers and military personnel traveled to Los Angeles to bring the Respawn Development team GeForce GTX TITANs and NVIDIA SHIELDs. It’s an interesting video but what’s buried in that video is more interesting than the fact that TitanFall will work great with Nvidia’s GPUs.

According to one developer from Respawn, TitanFall is playable – or should we say enjoyable – on a single GTX Titan in 4K.

    As the developer claimed:

“So recently we’ve got our 4K monitor here in the studio and I’ve had the great pleasure of playing TitanFall in 4K on a Titan GPU and it’s gorgeous. It was unbelievable. It’s a whole new experience.”

So there you have it everyone. TitanFall – in its current state – runs in 4K on a single Titan card.

TitanFall is currently planned for a March 11th release on PC, Xbox One and X360!
having stuff delivered by military guys? how corny and 'dude bro' is that?

Anyway I guess its the source engine doing work. I would love to see how low settings do you need to set to get 60fps

I'm really loving this push for 4K resolutions on PC gaming, because I'm ready to move on to 1080 or 1440 already.

I don't think I could go back from 1440p that I use now on a 27".. It makes a huge difference compared to 1080p on a 23". I'd love to see some beneficial 4k gaming.

I really want to move onto a 2560x1440 screen but I just can't give up 120hHz. Desperately searching for news on screen that offers both without needing to be overclocked. It's the sane 40fps ceiling that's killing 4K for me currently

Dell have just announced a 28" 4K screen for $1000

I thought Thats only if you use HDMI. If you use display port or DVI there is no such restriction.

which is cheaper: SSAA or 4K?

i mean performance wise. cause 4xSSAA removes almost all instances of jaggies at 1080p.

regarding the article. only one titan? here i was thinking it would be something insane like a giant spaceship from asgard

That sounds familiar actually. Maybe it is just that then. Though I still wouldn't want to go back to 60Hz. Find it difficult going back from 120hz

No point going higher res. won't look as good as AC IV on ps4 at 1080p.

How do you mean? I'm sure a maxed out AC4 on your 2560x1440 screen would blow away the PS4.

Yeah I was just being a prat as those are the claims I've seen. No doubt by people who think 1440p is some kind I black magic metric.

I remember when Half-Life and Unreal first came out, I went from 800x600 to 1024x768 and the difference was massive. Going from 1024 to 1280x1024 was also huge, then from 1920x1200 was another massive step. I can't imagine the immense clarity of the image on a 4k screen, you probably wouldn't need much AA if at all, I rarely use AA on a 1920x1080 resolution as it's pretty crisp already.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually share crytek's vision on this subject. Rather then pushing for raw pixel count, focus on the quality of each pixel. They said something about how we should try and achieve visual parity between a DVD movie and a game even if the resolution is 480p.

Crytek's philosophy actually shows to be worth pursuing when you look at Ryse

i am not so sure about HDMI able to do 4k @120Hz. Current HDMI standard can barely do 1080p @ 120Hz.

    http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/index.aspx

If the monitor/TV is Gsync compatible it wouldn't matter too much though.

Hey! Thats me on the internet!

Yeah guys, I was referring to a single TITAN running the game at 4K. With 4X MSAA and everything cranked I was running around the same map that we showed at E3 at 40-60fps - and we're still in the optimization phase. Rest of machine was pretty "ho hum", read: not some crazy liquid nitrogen overclocked beast. Just an i5-4570 with a decent amount of RAM (8GB I think? I forget now). Do we expect many people to have setups this fast? No way. We like making sure as many people as possible can play the game. Once we're closer to release we'll have min + recommended specs that shouldn't be too insane.

To those saying "lol Source, of course - my toaster can run it" you really should, you know, check out what we're pushing on screen compared to Portal 2. Oh, and there's the little difference of we rewrote the entire renderer for DX11/64bit. Would I ever dare say we're gunning for top rendering tech against DICE, Crytek, Epic, CDPR, etc.? Nah. Does the game look crazyawesome when there's a dozen Titans stomping around blowing each other up, Pilots jetpacking around rooftops, dropships with ziplining grunts coming out, all while midair and trying to hold your lock-on anti titan rocket launcher on just long enough to get tone before you let that baby fly? Hell yeah. IMO, there's more to a "good looking game" than buzzword rendering techniques.

Anyways - thanks to NVIDIA for stopping by! It was fun

Oh I know HDMI can't. I just don't know of any 2560x1440 screens that can do 120hz full stop
That G-Sync sounds interesting though. No screen tear is always a welcome thing. Wonder how long until the first screens start shipping with it.
