My PS3 60GB Fat Boy finally died...

...but what a first class console it's been. I got this on launch day in the uk, March 27th 2007. Not a single moment of trouble with it and despite me going through 4, yes four, Xbox 360's in that time it's been a stalwart of reliability. It owes us nothing and I take my hat off to Sony on producing a first class piece of hardware.

Now looking for a good uk price for a slim.

    No flowers.

    sorry to hear that.
I got my phat on launch and it lasted until about a month ago, now it beeps a few times, blinks red and then shuts off.
It was used extensively so I can´t complain. It was a good console. I might still have it repaired but with the price of new ps3s being so low, it´s probably not worth it.

Are you thinking of moving the old data to a new ps3? I think they are encrypted

You can't take a hdd from one ps3 and put it in another without formatting it first??

Nope, the data on the HDD is married to the original ps3. There is no way to recover the data, it is very annoying.

I had a weird issue iwth my 80gb phat console right around november 2011. It would run for about, 20-30 minutes at a time, and then shut itself off, So i traded that, uncharted 3, and a couple of games in for the 320gb UC3 bundle to gamestop, and i think i only had to pay like, 3 or 4 bucks out of pocket for it. Normally i dont trade games in, or buy used, but i figured it was my best money saving budget, and i dont care about gamestop or their well-being, so i made out pretty well on that front. Ive had zero problems with my PS3 slim since then. Ive even left it running for days at a time and it still works. i dont think ill ever get rid of it. now i just swap out cords between that and my PS4.

Ebay the dead fat for parts, you'll recover up to $200.
Don't have to take it apart, some might be able to repair for themselves.

Hell yeah it is awesome PS3. I was upgraded from PS2 to PS3 and found it very cool to use and the functionally is also good.
Now I am on my new PS3 Slim which is way cooler than old one.

Nice going! Anyway I pick up my 12GB slim on Saturday with hdd caddy. I'll move the 1TB drive over from my fat boy and reformat it. Hopefully then be good to go. Glad I'm PS+ so my saves are in the cloud.

My launch day PS3 is still going strong, never had any trouble with it. Fantastic bit of kit, I hope that the PS4 is equally as reliable.

Picked up my slim. Blimey, if you want a good reason for why you should pick up day one consoles then go from a 60GB fatty to the new slim model. I mean the difference in exterior build quality is chalk and cheese. My 60GB was a big, shiny, beautiful beast. The slim is a horrid little plasticky thing.

Still, all I need it to do is play my PS3 games. Doesn't need to look beautiful where it's sat and it is a lot quieter than the old 60GB.

In other news getting my Turtlebeach PX51's will now have to wait until January.
