    Best Controller for PC

I'm a total noob when it comes to pc gaming but with the steam sales I've bought some decent games at cut down prices and I'm looking for a good controller to play games like Oblivion on it.

So yeah I'm wondering what the best options out there that you guys recommend?

Just incase its needed, Windows 7 is running on my laptop

I'd just recommend the 360 controller for Windows. Otherwise Logitech and Razr should have good controllers. I think you can get your DS3 to work as well.

I'd like to know more about the Steam controller.

Does the 360 controller require a program for it too work or is it a simple plug in and play?

if it is a wireless controller you'll need a usb dongle to connect. If it is a wired one it'll work straight away and most games support 360 pad so all the prompts will be buttons of the controller.

I meant the Windows version of it, it's a wired controller. Alternatively, you can buy the wireless gaming receiver, then you can connect your actual 360 controller.

Yeah, the receiver is a very handy thing to have though. I use mine frequently.

360 controller is good for new game but bad for old games.
The Logitech has a switch to switch between newer xinput and older direct input.

The Logitech F710 would be my pad of choice, I think that's the one Keefy's referring to.

You can download a program that lets you use your console controller (ps3/ps4/xbox controller) you need a usb cable to connect your controller i know for sony controllers you use the DS3/DS4 tool

Its the keyboard thats the problem isnt it? Remembering where the keys are and moving fingers to them.

Yeah that's one reason. To be honest I ain't **** hot with the mouse either. Playing Oblivion for example, just unnatural using the mouse to look around have been used to analog sticks/D-Pads on a controller.

You do get used to it, I was the same when I first started, was fumbling about pressing wrong keys and minimising the games (damned windows key) but at that time the majority of games did not have controller support so had to learn.

To be honest the only games that do benefit form keyboard/mouse are FPS and RTS type games, the rest like Tomb Raider, Grand theft auto I can put up with a controller, heck, even RPG games that are first person, since no real fast aiming is needed.

Xbox 360 Controller for Windows would be my pick.

I can definitely relate to fumbling and pressing wrong keys lol

With the prices of some of the controllers, it means I won't be able to afford one for a few months (saving up for a ps4) Therefor I am just going to force myself to get used to using the keyboard and mouse.

I use my DS3 mainly for racers on the PC, Keyboard/mouse combo for FPS's. I followed this tutorial for setting up the PS3 controller:
    http://www.gamefront.com/how-to-use-...oller-on-a-pc/
Probably easier just to buy a wired 360 pad though

Definitely find racers better with a pad, feel as though I have more control over the driving

one of the biggest reasons I like PC is because of KB/M, mods, and MMOs.

I'm shocked that no one has suggested the DualShock 4!
