    Might get a 60 gb.

Ok so I'm getting a spare ps3. I'm debating putting my slim upstairs to be the work horse .

But for downstairs for my use. I found a good priced 60 gb.

My worry is . Will it work with all the newer games and blu rays?

Yes, as long as you have it updated with the latest firmware, youŽll be able to play all the latest games and BDs.

You're doing it the right way round, most newer games will cause your console to run hotter and I'd be happier spending extended periods on a newer machine after the solder issues the 60GB's had. How good is your deal? I only ask because I saw a 12gb super slim advertised on the TV for Ł99 the other day..

I assume you're wanting it for the PS2 BC? If the PS2 games you're wanting are on PSN as either HD remasters or PS2 classics I'd just go the super slim route and get those, the 60GBs are very rare now due to how easily they break, unless you can fix it yourself it's not worth the hassle.

If you can wait though there might be yet another, cheaper revision coming next year, it would be awesome if the hardware PS2 BC returned but I doubt it, I'd definitely get one if it does though lol and wireless N.

Not old enough here to create a thread, and since I think the conversation is going to this road, I guess I can put that here:

    So, I have a 80GB PS3 for 3 years already (put a 250GB HDD).
Guess what? Just discovered this is a BC PS2 machine!
Now here`s the worst part of it: the system is NTSC J (asked for a friend to buy it in China).
You see, I had a PS2 that died 2 years ago, and I was crazy for 3 particular games there: FF X, Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII.
Recently, I just had this really huge NEED to play these games again (you gamers knows what i`m talking about ), and I have 2 paths to follow here (I guess): Buy the Japan version, and play with a lot of dificulty, or just buy a PS2...
I would love to play the PS2 games on my PS3, but I think it`s not worthy to play the japanese version and don`t understand a thing.
I guess somehow I was lucky for a while - I have a PS3 that can play FFX and FFX-2 International! - but now, since these are being launched on PS3, doesn`t make any sense anymore to get the PS2 version....

Sooo, said all that to get to here: are there any other games like FFX International, NTSC-J in it`s nature but with English text and voicing? Are there any PS2 game region free?
Also, I guess there`s no chance at all of DQVIII and Rogue Galaxy to be released on PS3....would be dumb to buy and play the Japanese version of these?

And, well, hello! I`m new here

Pretty sure every PS2 game was region locked so you're out of luck. You'd be better off getting a used PS2 to play those games, I have no idea why SE wouldn't release DQ8 on PSN though even as a PS2 classic.

Yeah, I found that disturbing too...but it has something to do to the fact that DQX was released for Wii-U...

Discovered that Rogue Galaxy has a directors Japanese version with English text.....yey!

Well on Japanese PSN especially they've released pretty much every PS1 classic besides DQ7 and not sure about PS2 classics but last I checked no DQ8 either. Since it'd cost them next to nothing except being rerated and republished they'd make a ton of money but haven't bothered. I don't get SE most of the time.

Rogue Galaxy might be on there now though, last I checked Level 5/SCE had put up Dark Cloud.

    SE are stupid yes.

Previous generation, they basically bent over the whole time doing nothing and then released a piece of $#@! and then proceeded to complain and blame everyone else.

It is. It seems right after the transition from DVD to Blu-Ray, they are able to make games Region Free. I don't know if that is the license for Blu-Ray itself or based on the Publisher's choice. As far as I know, the only PS3 game that has Region locking is Persona 4 Arena.

    Hope you`re right bro...hope you`re right.
You know, do some reworking, put HD support, put a multiplayer (Rogue Galaxy gameplay is MP friendly...something near Last Story), add PS Vita to the plataforms supported and voila, you have a sales success...

Or simply lauch it as a PS2 Classic, this would already make me happy

He's talking about PS2 games. PS2 was the last Sony system to have region locking for all games, PSP was the first to be region free.

On a side note on blu ray, most movies are also region free unlike DVDs.

Wow. I only got the notifications for 2 responses.

Well, I got the 60 gb checha01 for 100$. It is in mint condition. I got it from the original owner with all the original box and cables.
the shinny top is still super nice, it plays flawlessly and is very quiet. I have a ps4 to be the blu ray player and do newer stuff and I now got the beauty to play ps3 and legacy titals.

    You`re a lucky...
So hey, you probably the first guy I know that has the BC PS3 working through Hardware....do it improves the PS2 games in some way, or just play them the way they are, no improvements over graphisc, resolution and all that stuff...?

I miss the slim PS3. As in: I want to buy a new one, but I don't fancy the new "super slim" PS3.

Wishlist: Jade Cocoon Reboot, Oni Reboot, the next JRPG, Wasteland 2 [coming soon!]
SotC 2, Fallout 4, next Obsidian Fallout, Project Eternity, Uncharted 4, Divinity [NEW!]
    ...

No it does everything perfect . Got the hard drive upgraded and it's awesome.

Part of it is having a cool ps3 that I wanted. I had a launch ps3 but it got damaged and was replaced.

Now I got one back. Love the 4 usb.
