The Most Important Aspects in a Game

Which aspects of a game are the most important to you and which are less relevant in your opinion? The pool contains 5 aspects which are: Graphics, Performance, Gameplay, Sound and Replayability. Which aspect is the most important to you? Evaluate all five aspects from 1 to 5, the 1 being the most important and relevant where as 5 will be the most irrelevant score. Describe your answer.

    Performance - 1
    Gameplay - 2
    Replayablity - 3
    Graphics - 4
    Sound - 5

For me its very important that the game runs well and appropriate according to the hardware on which it runs. No performance issues which lead to stuttering fps drops and poor average fps, for me a smooth experience is the most important factor in a game. Gameplay is the second most important one as in my opinion the gameplay is what makes the game. Reputability is also important in my opinion as it keeps the interest and immerses me into the game, would that be in terms of content or gameplay design. Graphics are also a factor however its not as relevant as the other ones. Sound is cool and can create a really nice atmosphere in a game but it is definitely not as important as the other 4 aspects.

So many people put sound low on their agenda but to me it is as important as graphics are. IF the sound scape is poor then the immersion level is lost.

I agree that the sound has a certain importance yet for me not such a severe one as I sometimes play with the sound turned off or with headphones listening to some podcasts or playlists. I see Replayability is not so relevant to you, you like changing games frequently and not concentrating on one game for a long period of time?

Similar top 5 to Keefy actually. Sound is very important to me. For example, just finished TLOU and hearing a clicker literary put the fear of $#@! up me. TLOU of us in general done a great job of building up the atmosphere with sounds and background music. If done right it definately adds to a game.

As for replayability, the reason I score it so lowly is purely because I don't really have the time these days to complete games more than once. I also have a huge backlog so I don't really look for a replayability factor

gameplay is a given. sound can make or break a game for me. graphics as well but not as much as sound. replability is important but not as much because the first time experience needs to be strong. overall, if the replability is very strong and gameplay is awesome then i will skip the rest of categories. performance to me, while also a big deal, and can break a game, if it's bearable and other things are excellent that i described then i will let it be less important. if it's good then that's just icing on the top. my fav games have been very low in performance, e.g. socom...BF can go in there too i guess.

The gameplay mechanics and the feeling of the controls in a game is definitely the most important to me. And I'm a bit of a graphics $#@!, so good looking visuals and cool design is pretty important (not a deal breaker) to me. Sound is a quite big part of the gaming experience to me. It's not that performance is unimportant to me, it's just not at the top of my list as long as I don't experience severe performance issues. Replayability becomes less and less important to me, since it feels like I have less time to replay games now days.

This list is mainly based on single player and story driven games. The list might differ a bit if it was based on competative online shooters for example.

Nice to see someone else who looks for the same game attributes as I do.

good point. i have seen games being destroyed solely due to characters being horrible or uninspiring. so yea, i guess all of these things can break a game but some do more than others.

I don't really care about story in games as I primarily play multiplayer games but obviously single player games need to have a story good enough to keep me interested enough to play it though to the end. Typically I only play through a single player game once, though the Mass Effect franchise has been an exception to this rule in the previous generation.

If its a multiplayer game I will replay it and likewise if the game play is good I might replay it. But typically these days like someone else mentioned I do not have the time to replay single player games these days so its not a priority, 10+ years ago I had all the time in the world; Its why I got 99% on Gran Turismo 3 before my PS2 broke.
I replayed Metal Gear 2 god only knows how many times to get the dog tags and secrets and stuff.

In regards to sound, I affiliate this with atmosphere - included, but not limited to: snippets of music and/or ambient sound.

That's a good point. It really depends on the type of game. Multiplayer, for the most part, is all about graphics/framerate/etc. and gameplay. For games like Mass Effect, Uncharted, Mass Effect, a good story is imperative and imo, more important than graphics, although those games have been excellent in visuals as well.

    Replayability - 4
    Performance - 5

Gameplay, graphics and sound are at the top since they're really what define our favorite games and what we continue to talk about the most. Replayability isn't as important because a game has to end at some point but it should hold your interest long enough to mean something (if that makes sense). Performance is at the bottom of the list because I'm perfectly fine with 30 frames per second and rarely experience game-breaking issues on games I play for consoles or handhelds.

Although there it's one that I feel it's missing that it's crucial and that it's story. I would rank that second with the rest of the list remaining true.

One this is for sure, no other elements can carry a game by itself except story.

I can swap 2 and 3 really - it's a bit of a tie. But to me, so long as the game itself isn't riddled with unplayable dips in frame-rate, I can live any other minor hiccup (especially if the game is good and looks good).

Looks like gameplay is the most important aspect of a game for the majority of the people, fair enough.
