Can we just stick in a PS2/PS3 game in the PS4 THEN Stream it from PS Now? I don't think Sony has explained that one yet...

No. No discs involve. Just like streaming a video on Netflix, you stream a game on PSNow.

It has been mostly positive but still some noticeable lag from what i've read. But that is to be expected at this early stage. What they're doing is on a much larger scale than what Gaikai provided.

Regarding the lag, this is a post i saw on another forum with some user opinions:

GameInformer - "The most important detail is the lag between hitting a button and watching your actions on screen, and in that area I experienced almost none. The latency was super low and didn't feel noticeable different from if I was playing on a TV hooked up to my PlayStation at home."
    http://tinyurl.com/mem4a75

Engadget - "We got our hands on PlayStation Now today at a CES 2014 PlayStation event, where we tried God of War: Ascension on a Bravia TV (without a PS3) and The Last of Us on a Vita. Both games played like there was a local PlayStation 3 (including the incredibly long initial load for The Last of Us) and ran without a hitch. There was zero perceptible lag in our (admittedly brief) playtime."
    http://tinyurl.com/mhv5oju

Destructoid - "Gameplay was very responsive and completely lag free."
    http://tinyurl.com/pubtp6m

The Verge - "The game's loading time left a bit to be desired, but once it was running, things went on without a hitch. Yes, there's a slightly perceptible lag between button presses and the corresponding action onscreen, but we still managed to slay numerous enemies in God of War's brutal style without it being a problem."
    http://tinyurl.com/oxdlpje

Obviously it was a staged demo so things maybe different in the real world but I can't see any complaints so far or game breakers.

Yes the demos in the booths have the perfect setup, the actual content was streaming from within the centre they are in so the latency will be miniscule, much smaller then if the cloud was based even 10 miles away.

Even ign said lag was next to none, just image artifacts where a bit noticeable. Lol I don't know where buddy is reading that the lag being noticeable

I have remote played away from my ps4 (took a while to find my ps4), and the input lag was next to none. Rather than lag, you get a Disconnect icon on the top left corner of the screen and the image quality drops until the connection is strong again. If it's the same tech then lag should not be an issue

I'm only excited for this if the catalogue of PS1/PS2 titles is great.

Maybe this is why the addition of PS classics on the PS3 has slowed down so much over the last few years, as they have been working to add up more of them for PS Now/Gaikai.

Mostly positive is right with latency being minimal. So far I've only seen the verge mention seeing any and even then barely noticeable."Slighly perceptable." And there was even a video where they demonstrated the lack of lag on GOW Ascension so overall things are looking good.

I don't get it. I mean streaming games and stuff would be fine if you don't have the discs. But why not set themselves apart even further from MS by actually offering backwards compatibility on the ps4? That way if you still have your ps2 or ps1 discs you could play them if you wanted. That seems to be one big factor that nobody has really explored. I bet Sony would sell 3 times as many consoles if they announced backwards compatibility with ps3 games and even more with ps2. They could really make the gap even bigger as being a dedicated game machine by doing that.

BC just isn't feasible cost-wise. For PS3 games, I don't even think it would be possible unless they basically added in the PS3 architecture as part of the PS4. PS2 could probably be done through emulation, but there are so few games available at retail to justify the cost.

Plus didnt Sony once say that not enough people even used the BC to justify that cost?

I no longer care at all about being able to play games I already own on a new system. That's a novelty that is past its appeal since the PS2 days. It was unthinkable then, but really what's the point now? Drive up costs of the new system that you're trying to buy to play new games?

I however do care about playing games I've never played or owned though. This is what I liked about Playstation classics being added to the PSN store. A good chunk of my digital purchases for the PS3 has been PS1 and PS2 games that I simply missed out on. This is the advantage PS Now will potentially have for me.

Did they? Not surprised. I had a 60gb PS3 at the beginning.....never once played a PS2 game on it. I was all for BC back then and was pissed when they took it out. But looking back, it would have been better for me and Sony if they hadn't included it and dropped the price a $100.
