    TressFX on console. First proper comparison?

    Tomb Raider is confirmed to be running tressfx with the next-gen releases for both XB1 and PS4.

    TressFX uses GPU compute to accelerate the physics calculation of Lara's hair. Allowing 1000's of individual hair strands.


    With this being the case, will this be the first multiplatform game to show the difference in compute power between the PS4 and XB1?

    Keep in mind, Sony specifically beefed the compute power of their GPU.

    also keep in mind, TressFX v1.1 crippled even the beefiest GPUs. Power difference in this area should make a difference.

    I doubt there will be a difference in hair on the PS4 and XB1. The hairs will flow freely on both consoles.

    It will be interesting.. though I gotta say, I both love and really hate this feature. It looks gorgeous, but the way it moves a lot of the times..

    Tomb Raider will also boast Sub-surface scattering on both consoles. These are two very GPU bound tasks (especially TressFX). This is the first indication of how performance will differ going forward as no multiplatform game - thus far - has leaned on General Purpose GPU computing this heavily.

    granted, TressFX is the only one noticeable in real time, We could see the XBO match the features of the PS4, but run at 720p and have a wonky 30fps target?

    1080p was what they said Tomb Raider was running at. weather that was both remains to be seen. but a feature this GPU demanding should show something, given the disparity in this area?

    I'll have to see some an actual performance comparison before a take the bait. (bait as in ps4 or xb1 version)
    I was already leaning on the PS4 version, so, it's almost a no brainer anyways.

    I LOOVE this game. But charging full price for minimal upgrades is robbery imo.

    I'll pick this up at a bargain though.

    EDIT:
    60fps on PS4 and not on XB1? Why the difference though? I presume they had the same amount of time to work on these "ports".

    IT will look the same just the framerate will be worse on the less powerful system. If I try tress FX on my 6870 the frame rate tanks big time.
