    'Xbox One Easier To Develop For Than PS4' Says Witcher 3 Developer


    Witcher 3 developer says there are no major power differences between the PS4 and Xbox One but that the latter is easier to develop for.

    We've heard a lot about how developer friendly the PS4 is, with Sony keen to learn from the mistakes it made with the PS3, which was notoriously difficult to develop for.
    However, The Witcher 3 developer Balazs Torok claims that it is actually the Xbox One that is the easier console to develop for.
    "The Xbox One is pretty easy to understand because not just the hardware is similar to the PC, but everything like the SDK, the API is really similar to what you would find on a PC," said Torok, speaking to Eurogamer.
    "On PS4 this is a little bit more complicated, but I personally worked on PS3 before."
    "For PS3 it was very important to have a community, to share the information in some ways, but for now it's much easier and everyone will use their PC knowledge and possible previous console knowledge to reach the limit," Torok explained.
    Torok also touched on the relative power of the PS4 and the Xbox One, contradicting reports that the PS4 has a significant power advantage on the Xbox One.
    "On the PS4 it's very good to have the fast memory. Everyone is really happy about that," Torok said.
    "We are not at the stage right now to go in and optimise on each platform specifically. We want to make the game and the whole engine run on everything, with all the features and bells and whistles, and then just optimise, optimise, optimise," Torok continued.
    "I don't see a major power difference. The memory is very different but I already said that before. Pure computation power, if you just measure that, there's no major difference."

    If it does, it would be one of the first multiplats without a difference advantage (slight or otherwise) to PS4. Makes sense as CDPR are really really good though, so if there's anyone that can equalise them it'd be CDPR.

    LMAO! So then the inferior multiplats on X1 must indeed be due to the power gap since X1 is easier to develop for than the PS4. Anyway old article is old.

    Hope the consoles don't stray too far.

    My prediction? I think the actual visuals will match the PC (more or less - apart from DF or some Master Race gamer taking a fine tooth comb to point out that 3 strands of Geralt's hair are missing from the console versions compared to the pc... ). But the performance might take a hint here and there, but still be playable (read: not like a BEthesda game...)

    Ease of development has nothing to do with graphical grunt or power in systems.

    True.
    Good tools make it faster to make something to work and more time for actual production thus improve final quality, but especially in graphics the end result is combination of many things.

    And even in case if graphics pipeline is ridiculously strong, but something causes image quality to drop, it really hurts the overall feeling.

    IE.
    Ps1 lack of sub-pixel accuracy and decent mipmapping, these would have fixed a lot of the perceived quality and would have been cheap to implement. (mipmapping would have increased performance.)
    These together would have reduced most of the sparkling and juddering and made image stable.

    N64 had a stable image and thus in many cases it's more pleasant to watch in motion. (N64 also had plenty of rotten things which hurt it, like 4kb of texture cache without ability to texture form main memory etc.)
