    What about this hard drive?

I can not do much research from my G2, but I think this drive would work great in ps4...anyone tried one this size?

Here is a great deal on the Western Digital Green WD15NPVT 1.5TB IntelliPower 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive , http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=22-236-347

It's too tall (15mm), the max height you can use in the PS4 is 9.5mm...

Anyone got a specific drive they used so far in the PS4 for reference? I'm thinking about upgrading now - before I jam too much into my current HDD and start having to delete games...I know for sure that the next few months will be definite purchases on games, like Driveclub, maybe Thief, among others...like Infamous...

The most common one that I have seen people install so far has been this model:

    http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Solid-...ch-ST1000LM014

It is a 1TB SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive), it is basically a 1TB platter with 8GB of SSD built into the drive, the drive puts the most commonly used files on the SSD portion giving it SSD like performance when running certain things. Seagate is supposed to be coming out with one with a 32GB SSD built into the drive, but it has been in a delayed status for over 6 months. I will probably be picking up this drive in the near future as well, just waiting for the price to drop a little (I have seen it go as low as $89 on Amazon).

    This thread is surprisingly dead.
I'll let you know how the sammy swap goes.
It's going to be on an unopened PS4 from November (yeah, i know, still got that one my friends didn't want).

I went ahead and made the jump last week and got the 1TB/8GB SSHD drive that I posted earlier. Swapping the drive took about 5 minutes and after loading the firmware from a flash drive, I re-installed my games and everything is running butter smooth!

Nice. I ordered the Samsung 2GB external last night.
    Wish me luck!

Let us know how it goes, I am always interested in other options. If/when Seagate ever releases their SSHD with 32GB of solid state storage I will move over to that one, but for now the 8GB SSHD will have to do!

The HDD in question has a 32MB Cache...
That could be enough to absorb alot of write hits. It won't load as fast as the SSD but at least saving the write hits will keep a few buffers empty and yield similar noticeable speed ups.

I'm just sad there wasn't a second SATA header on the mobo aching to be tapped into A small SSD for game caching and an internal HDD would have been boss.
Just an empty slot for an mSATA would have been a sick add in.

Will do. I'm still tinkering with various Sega NOMAD and a SuperGrafx i got that worked fine with a Jap HuCard that someone sold me as not working (it needs a good cleaning and is going to get recapped and region modded anyway).
I'll RGB Mod the SG as well. I'm waiting for a SCART 50/60 upscaler to HDMI out adapter and a saturn and a DC RGB SCART cable to arrive to test those 2's native RGB output through the scaler and hdmi converter.

I've played ALOT of Dr Robotnic's Mean Bean Machine the last 2 days testing Nomads, rofl. Screen Mods for those. Also, even though i've owned one personally for years, i just noticed that there is plenty of tab under that curved flap that says I can probably make it mega drive ready too

Needless to say i figured out something to do while I take care of Mom instead of work

I'm hoping the Seagate/samsung issue is just with initializing the drive with the OS instead of a pure swap and having it load appropriate drive settings.
The OS SHOULD be just plugging them into the Kernel, but, it is a special purpose device, so, extraneous sub routines do get lost in the shuffle to save and slice bits of memory back to the pool. That is a bit extreme though!

I sent an email to the news guys that PUTTY SQUAD is coming out next week, Tuesday, in the US!!!

I imported it and love the damned thing. Now you guys in the US who don't import... go grab the damned game!!!
    Platforming heaven.

    Picts aren't uploading.

Anwyay, the Seagate 2TB arrived and it's got the Sammy spinpoint in it.
    2TB @9.6cm.

So, gonna play with this in a PS4 for a bit.

I think i'll just slap the new HDD in and goto safe mode and Initialize the PS4 with 1.61 off a stick, that way it wipes anything Seagate has on it and loads all drivers while analyzing the installed hardware , if it checks for different brands of drives and even models. If, maybe that solves these 'installing a samsung ' on a hitachi original system install issue many claim exists.

OH well, The Seagate made Samsung M9T is not working on the extra PS4 I have.
I used the 800+meg from scratch file on my SONY usb stick to do the upgrade.

The machine does the update but I get the same error alot of people report where the screen is black after reboot.

Until SONY issues a statement on this drive i'd steer clear of it.

I am running low on space on my laptop anyway, Guess I'll upgrade it with this drive since I'm stuck with it, lol.

EDIT: I'm going to put the HDD back in and boot with my TV turned off, just to see if that rumor works on this one. I will say I don't have evidence that it's 'pulling extra power' ... I'm guessing that SONY has to update their SATA command stack for compatibility. It could be this happens on the Seagate based systems... not sure why a from scratch ground up install with the USB wouldn't have those files ready to patch, unless it's not patching based on not being a specific drive ID even if it is from Sammy/Seagate.

    No Go.

For now, until we know what/why, the 1.5TB WD or Hitachi would be safer bets.

As usual, if it's Seagate or Samsung, I have some damned issue with it.
    Never seems to change.
