Satya Nadella made CEO of MS, Stephen Elop to lead XBox Team

Elop will still rejoin Microsoft shortly to lead an expanded devices team focused on Surface, Windows Phones, and Xbox.

The rumor mill is going ape $#@! right now over this. If you know this guys history and his stance on the XBox, this may come as pretty unwelcome news.

The light at the end of the tunnel just disappeared for Microsoft. Elop leading the Xbox division. lolz ouch

There is a bright side to this for the Xbox fans and that is at least Elop doesn't have the power to shut down the Xbox division. But with how he handled Nokia and stuff like that, I just don't see any hope. I'm sure he won't last long in Microsoft but I don't know. This really doesn't sound promising.

Elop = bad news. He may not have the power to shut down the division but he could still try to convince the investors to vote.

With Nintendo going down, we need the competition SONY/MS

OK, so then why place so much on this person? Doesn't make sense to me if they are truly responsible for destroying a large company.

Sorry, I didn't want to brow-beat unnecessarily. I thought people knew this guys background when it came to the XBox. Please see the below:

This is actually good news. Nadella is one of the people responsible for making Microsoft's Azure and xbox live services they are today. I think it was a good choice to choose a veteran already with the company. Good move MS.

Nadella is a good pick form what I hear. For MS as a whole.

Xbox and Elop on the other hand? Hmm, we'll see.

Anything can be a good/bad news if you're biased towards/against a product. As we can clearly see from this thread lol.

No that I'm not biased to or anything.

lol there is something some people need to understand here though. Satya is CEO, this means he is going to concentrate on improving the company. If there is something not making money, he may try to get it to where it could make money but if it isn't, be sure this guy will weed out anything not making money. I'm also sure he is going to concentrate a lot on the OS side of things since that is Microsofts main money maker, that is what got microsoft to where it is now is Windows and the dominating effect it holds in the PC market as well as Business software. Don't think for one second that if something doesn't meet it's quota that he won't toss away that loss. What Satya worked on is much different to what he has to do right now.

We'll have to see what he's going to do in the future here because right now regardless of what he did with Xbox live before, once you are running an entire company, everything changes.

New Microsoft CEO “A good Supporter of Xbox;” Long Term More Important than Short Term PR Wins – Phil Spencer

Basically Spencer is optimistic about the new CEO and Elop.

Well worrying about Elop if he was CEO is another thing. But Nadella worked on the cloud apparently, and seems very pro Cloud (not just XB1) and Mobile (Xbox handheld???).

So even if Elop were to play up he'd just be castrated wouldn't he.

Ultimately, it's on Nadella if the division stays or goes. By putting Elop over the XBox, there's another way of looking at it. He will clearly try to reform the XBox business and that means he has fresh ideas about what can be done to expand the business.

In the end, it could turn out to be a good thing as much as it could turn out to be bad. The sooner he chimes in, likely the better it is for the XBox. MS has to be aware that there is a cloud of uncertainty due to this.

Well tbh what else would he say about the CEO? lol Anyway I'm sure everything will be fine as will the xbox brand.

Well I don't know much about either or at all for that matter. So I'll see how this pans out down the road. Can't see it being much worse than Mattrick though.

I must say that is quite refreshing to see you post a counterargument source. It would have been more effective for a healthy debate if posted in the OP but hey, who's nitpicking
