    Is morbid curiosity normal?

For some reason I've always found it fascinating to read about people's demises.

Weather that means watching documentaries such as The Bridge which films dozens of suicide jumpers plunge to their deaths from the Golden Gate Bridge, Pictures/articles/videos of the suicide Forrest in Japan and I've recently been reading up and watching documentaries about the mountain K2 (if you're in the UK BBC 4 had a brilliant documentary on it. 11 climbers died in 24 hours) and Everest and seeing the bodies that have been left there, unable to be retrieved.

Am I alone in this? I know only one of my friends shares the same interest. I don't find it entertaining as such bit I find it just really gripping and once I start I find it hard to stop searching for more.

Do you think it's normal to have a morbid curiosity or is it something people shouldn't ever want to find out about?

Not many moons ago, quite recently actually I had a death wish. I was prepared to take my own life just to see what was on the otherside.

I don't personally think there is anything wrong with it, the wife and I are quite into our programs such as curious and unusual deaths and 1000 ways to die! It is just sometimes interesting to see the many ways that when it's your time to go sometimes there is nothing you can do about it, and quite often on both programs it's just about being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Yeah seems to be the case with mountaineering. The documentary should be on iPlayer still.

Vice have a good 20 minute documentary about the suicide forest in Japan which I'd very interesting.

I guess it's something we are all going to experience sooner or later so it's interesting to see how some have met their makers.

One guy on that K2 documentary slipped and that one slip cost him his life. Very unfortunate

It's normal. Most people have some sort of morbid curiosity. Realistically, it strikes me as being natural for a mortal extensional conscious to be curious about circumstances surrounding the subject of death, pain, and the physical. It is the other half of existence, so it makes sense that it would fascinate us to a degree.

It probably works to some evolutionary favor, too. A better understanding of such things equates to higher chances of survival in various scenarios, encompassing aspects on a social and physical level.

I think a lot of people are interested even if they don't admit it, when I was back in school me and some friends would look at pictures of dead people or watch videos where someone commits suicide, it sounds weird but I guess it's something you think about as you grow up and learn more about life. I wouldn't say we found enjoyment of seeing these things but it was just interesting to see what actually happens, we never went as far as watching snuff videos or anything like that though, I've been told about certain videos and they sound horrible.

Recently I watched a film based on the Nuremberg trials and in that they show actual footage that US soldiers took of the concentration camps and that was very disturbing, quite surprised they showed it really but I guess hiding it would be an injustice.

it's normal. most things are normal.

even if it wasn't supposedly a good thing, you may have a mental illness and in that case, it isn't your fault.

It really is normal. People in general are curious about death and gore. Most people just don't actively seek it out. But nothing wrong with it either way. It's just simple human curiosity. But I remember in high school people were fascinated by Rotten.

If you want to know a really crappy feeling. Look up Ed Gein and read as much as you can and watch a few documentaries and try to feel what he may have felt in his mind. just put your mind in his mind and think about it, it's not a good feeling and it messes with you completely. Some Psychologists/therapists have done this, and while they can't know what really went on in that guys head or anyone elses, you get a little taste of it at least. not a good feeling and like I said, it will screw with ya for a few days.

Just to add a little bit more. Whenever you drive around and see a house that kind of looks odd or warn out, that thought crosses your mind in that it's possible that there could be people living in this or that house that have people strung up like a deer and gutted or maybe that guy down the street that isn't outside much or says his girlfriend lives with him but no one ever see's her is possibly skinned to create lamp shades or possibly a mask made from him or her. o_O

It's that type of curosity that will make you obsess about it for a couple of days. It will keep running through your mind and there is a good reason for that thought to keep running like that for a couple of days.

Don't see anything wrong with it. I don't like to look at the dead bodies but if someone died in an unusual way I think it's interesting to read/watch something about it. I'd rather read about something than see pictures or videos. I really don't need to see a human being gutted with it all out on the floor.

that house that have people strung up like a deer and gutted or maybe that guy down the street that isn't outside much or says his girlfriend lives with him but no one ever see's her is possibly skinned to create lamp shades
That kind of stuff is disgusting that a human being would do that to another human being. I sometimes wonder if anything has happened in a run down house but I try not to imagine anything.

Honestly there is nothing waiting on the otherside, no heaven or hell no matter what some people lead you to believe, it just ends like pulling the power from a PS4 and never getting it back. People who claim to speak to the dead are the biggest jokes of all, I actually feel sorry for devout Christians.

It doesn't have to. There is a difference between the dead and how they died.

Well hey I'm fascinated by scat porn - two girls, one cup because it's mind boggling what goes through their mind when they make a life decision to $#@! in each others mouths and eat it like it's a happy meal.

I'm not a religious nut but I remember commiting suicide when I was depressed and everything went black and a little while before that incident I see life through the minds of other people almost like I could see what brain wires they were using.

He tried committing suicide and failed, but the lack of oxygen or adequate blood pressure to the brain caused him to hallucinate vividly.
