LOL Brian Hayes!, I remember playing Fight Night with him at E3. Whooped my ass, but the scorecard said the opposite!

I'm also on the fence about this game, but I really hope it is good.

I am too much of a UFC fan to pass this one up. Bad or not, this game is going to be purchased by me.

I hope they fixed submissions. The previous game's system was not even remotely a) fun or b) accurate. I think it should still be stick based, but not just rotating it chasing a bloody 'spot'.

In saying that the game looks gooood (but Gus looks nothing like the real dude).

Dunno - something just looked off to me. Everyone else seems spot on though. This looks more like Fernando Torres to me.

    This d'arce looks cool:

Though JBJ's arm length should be long enough that his arms aren't just closing in on Rashad's neck and back. It should look comfortable (for him anyway).

I just hope they don't limit the grappling game too much. I wanna be able to jump to a guillotine if I want to or go for a wide variety of subs from any position (as opposed to just a standard half-guard kimura). And they need to make escapes harder from on bottom - particularly for the AI - the amount of times/success rates of them easily pushing you off from mount or side-control is just bloody unrealistic.

Put me off the entire game.

    Fix it EA.

Grappling is a fundamental factor in almost any MMA match, and here it falls under the jurisdiction of R1 and the right analog stick. EA Sports UFC aims to simplify the ground game too, enabling fighters to swap positions quickly and seamlessly by rotating around their opponents’ bodies using the right stick. The submission minigame is a high-stakes affair, throwing both the defensive and offensive player into a competition of speed and reflexes.
When a player attempts a submission, the defending player works to escape by pushing the right stick in one of the four cardinal directions, while the attacking player tries to match his movements to stop that escape. Simultaneously, the attacking player must match his or her left stick with flashing prompts on screen to advance the submission.

Considering the richness of MMA and the strategies therein, the potential for multiplayer here is tremendous. Fortunately, EA Sports UFC will support both local and online multiplayer, along with single-player career options. Meaning there’s more than enough room for EA Canada to showcase its knowledge of — and dedication to — the sport.

Let's see those graphics in real time gameplay. I purchased one UFC game, but didn't really play it too much. If EA isn't on their F-boi shenanigans, I'll give this a go.

Hmm. Seems like more or less like the last game.

I dunno man, I guess I'll have to try trhe demo lol. But that goes coutner-intuitive in what you try to do in BJJ/submission - if a guy tries to escape, you don't "match" that move, you try to exploit the opeing he's left by going for said escape.

Not saying it's easy to set this up, and especially to try simplify it to the "just bleed" UFC/MMA fan type of gamer, but there's got to be a better way.

but again, I'l reserve jdugement unti lI see or play it.

    EA Sports UFC

Doesn't look a true next-gen experience IMO; it's close but close your eyes and imagine exactly how you'd expect this to look, it's not quite there, seems a little rushed.
Bought the 2009 version too, couldn't get to grips with the grapple or submission system: played literally only by strikes. Lost everytime someone landed a submission I had no idea how to get out.
Haven't played a UFC game since because the controls were far too elaborate IMO.
Due to the above reason I'm willing to give this a chance however this will be a case of downloading the demo and playing that way before I even consider purchase.

PS, strikes only sounds crap, but I finished some matches with some immaculate superman punches!

I didn't realise I apologise; not sure if that's a good thing or not
Their sports games are fantastic, however their customer service or lack of patches for fixing problems is abysmal

No need to apologize man. EA did a really good job with their MMA title they made featuring Randy Couture and Fedor. EA has a larger budget as well. UFC is a big deal, and I think EA will knock this one out of the park. I could be dead wrong though lol

You might be in luck - looks like they've dumbed the grappling down.

I for one would all up for a complex BJJ style grappling system.

Hold L1 if want to make a transition attempt. Use the left stick to balance your character, and use right stick to initialise attack. Everytime you want to finish your submission, use an octodad-esque control system where each limb is controlled using the sticks and a shoulder button as a modifier.

Add sweeps and contextual submissions (where I can attack using free reign of limb control, and you have a winner! For people like me that is...

    Complexity is win for me.

You can still 'box' - it's just mma, as a game at least, gives you more options of what you can do.
Don't have to throw kicks if you don't want to, or grapple - but that's to your detriment...

The same rules should apply to everyone, I would get my ass handed to me if I tried to just box in a UFC, hence I won't be purchasing it. MMA exudes douchery, boxing while decaying in the public eye at least doesn't come paired with the droves of fans that look like their lifestyle revolves around gym, tan, laundry & their awesome too small tapout shirts. Grandfather told me stories of Ali vs Frazier, so I am bias. If there was a boxing mode, I would buy it.

MMA is a much tougher sport than boxing. Boxing relies a lot on power and speed. MMA relies on endurance, grappling, boxing, wrestling, kick boxing, boxing, ect.

It is a real mans sport.
